WBJEE 2018 Exam Pattern

WBJEE 2018 Exam Pattern details out the syllabus, nature of questions, marking scheme, distribution of questions etc. in the exam. There will be a total of 200 questions from Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics that evaluate the ability and competence of all applicants.

WBJEE 2018 will be conducted in the third week of April 2018. There will be two slots on the same day, where Physics and Chemistry will be held together in the first slot and Mathematics in the second. West Bengal Joint Entrance Exam will be conducted in offline mode and the total duration of the exam is 4 hours.

WBJEE Syllabus will be based on chapters in PCM from class XII. The question paper will contain all objective questions. As for the WBJEE marking scheme, one mark will be awarded for each correct answer option, while 0.25 mark will be deducted for each incorrect answer.

All candidates who clear WBJEE 2018 will be able to seek admission in any one of the participating institutes of WBJEE. These institutes offer undergraduate courses in engineering, pharmacy and architecture. This year, nearly 1.5 lakh candidates are expected to appear for WBJEE 2018.

WBJEE 2018 Marking Scheme 

WBJEE is one of the most famous yet difficult exam to crack. A lot depends on the nature of questions and how well you perform in each section. The marking scheme for any exam plays a big role in deciding your scores. In WBJEE, there are three categories of questions. They have been described below:

Category 1

  • Questions in Category 1 carry 1 mark each
  • 1 mark will be awarded for each correct answer
  • 0.25 marks will be deducted for each wrong answer
  • Marking more than one answer option in the OMR sheet will be treated as incorrect answer, which means 0.25 mark will be deducted

Category 2 

  • Questions in Category 2 carry 1 mark each
  • 2 marks will be awarded for each correct answer
  • 0.25 marks will be deducted for each wrong answer
  • Marking more than one answer option in the OMR sheet will be treated as incorrect answer, which means 0.25 mark will be deducted

Category 3 

  • More than 2 answer choices can be correct
  • Full 2 marks if all correct choices are selected
  • There is no negative marking

Hi Prakash, I am giving you the Eligibility Criteria of this entrance exam, please check these followings


  1. A candidate must have a minimum aggregate of 60 % marks in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics/Biology and a minimum of 30% marks in the English language in class 12th qualifying examination.
  2. There is a 5% relaxation of marks for SC, ST, OBC and PWD candidates.
  3. The minimum age requirement to appear in WBJEE is 17 years for all the engineering /technology /pharmacy courses.
  4. The lower age limit for marine engineering is 17 years whereas the upper age limit is 25 years.
  5. A candidate must be a citizen of India to be able to apply for WBJEE.
