TANCET 2018 Exam Pattern

TANCET 2018 Exam Pattern will be decided by Anna University. The exam is conducted for admission into Master of Business Administration, Master of Computer Application, Master of Technology and other post-graduate courses offered by Anna University and other colleges in Tamil Nadu.

  • Separate question papers are made for separate courses and they follow different exam pattern.
  • There are three kinds of papers- one for MBA course, one for MCA and one for M.Tech/M.E/M.Arch courses.
  • TANCET 2018 is a pen paper based offline examination.
  • The maximum time allowed to attempt the question paper is 2 hours.
  • Only multiple-choice questions are asked in TANCET. Total 100 questions are asked in the paper.
  • Maximum marks that can be obtained by a candidate are 100. 1 mark is awarded for correct response.
  • There is negative marking of 1/3 marks for incorrect response
  • TANCET 2018 Syllabus analyses the candidate’s verbal and analytical skills.
  • It includes questions from Mathematics, Data sufficiency and General English language. It is a general aptitude test for applicants.

TANCET is scheduled to be conducted in the month June. Interested candidates can fill TANCET 2018 Application Form. Some Universities and Self-Financing Engineering Colleges may also choose to admit students on the basis of marks obtained in the exam.

As TANCET is common for all candidates seeking admission in either MBA programs, MCA or engineering stream post-graduation degrees, there are three question papers for each stream. Let’s look into TANCET 2018 Exam Pattern in detail.

For MBA Courses

  • There is a general aptitude test conducted by Anna University for MBA courses offered by Tamil Nadu colleges.
  • TANCET 2018 for MBA courses is divided into four sections.
  • The first section aims to check the candidate’s ability to identify data and apply the data to business decisions from given typical business situations.
  • Other sections evaluate student’s passage comprehension ability, mathematics and Basic English knowledge.
  • Only Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) are there.
  • Negative marks are deducted for wrong responses in TANCET 2018 exam.

For Master of Computer Awareness Course

TANCET 2018 is also the entrance test for getting into post graduate MCA courses in state colleges of Tamil Nadu.

  • The exam examines the aspirant’s capability regarding admission into MCA course.
  • The paper consists of four different questions namely Quantitative Aptitude, Analytical Reasoning, Logical Reasoning and General Computer Awareness.
  • There are only multiple choice questions that make up the maximum marks of 100.
  • There is negative marking in TANCET 2018 exam for MCA courses.
  • There can be some questions from English and Basic Sciences, though it is less probable.

For M.tech/M.E/M.Arch Courses

Candidates willing to continue higher studies in engineering stream in academic session 2018-19 also need to face TANCET 2018.

  • TANCET 2018 exam for M.Tech or M.Arch and other technological courses decided whether the candidate is eligible for admission into the state colleges of Tamil Nadu.
  • The exam itself comprises of three parts.
  • Part I and Part II are mandatory for the applicants while they have to choose the Part III’s subject at the time of registration.
  • Part III should be chosen according to the course the candidate wants to pursue.
  • Maximum time allowed for the examination is two hours.
  • There are only 100 multiple choice questions.
  • All the questions will be of undergraduate level.
  • Negative marking is valid for incorrect answers.

TANCET 2018 Marking Scheme

There are different papers for different courses in TANCET 2018 but similar marking scheme is followed in all tests. Let’s have a look into the marking scheme of this exam:

  • TANCET 2018 question paper will be of 100 marks containing 100 multiple choice questions.
  • Each question carries 1 mark and that is awarded for each correct answer.
  • Candidates lose 1/3 marks for every incorrect response.
  • If a student marks more than one option in a single question in TANCET 2018, it is counted as wrong and negative marking is done.
  • Questions left unanswered are ignored while checking the OMR. No marks are given for such questions.

TANCET 2018 Syllabus

Anna University prescribes the syllabus for TANCET every year. The detailed syllabus can be downloaded from the university’s official website.

  • Questions determining the ability of data sufficiency for answering certain problems using the given data and the knowledge of mathematics are asked.
  • Test of knowledge on written English with questions on errors in usage, grammar, punctuation, spelling and other topics is taken.
  • Mathematical problems are from undergraduate and CLASS XII (10+2) level only.
  • Comprehensive questions tests the candidate’s skill to answer questions based on their reading of the given unseen passage.

Hi Saravanan, TANCET ME/M. Tech Paper is divided into 3 parts: Part 1, Part 2 and Part 3. Part 1 and Part 2 comprises 30 questions each and every question in Part 1 and Part 2 carries 1 mark While Part 3 consists of 40 – 45 questions carrying 40 marks.
