SSC Stenographer Syllabus 2017

SSC Stenographer examination 2017 is scheduled to take place between September 4, 2017 and September 7, 2017. It is a computer based test, conducted every year by SSC. Candidates interested in appearing for SSC Stenographer 2017 must know SSC Stenographer syllabus 2017 along with the exam pattern.

  • Staff Selection Commission has released the syllabus and exam pattern of SSC Stenographer examination on its official website.
  • Candidates are selected after the online examination and skill test conducted by SSC.
  • If candidates perform well in the computer based test, they would be shortlisted for the skill test.
  • Selected candidates are recruited for Stenographer Grade “C” and “D” posts. The number of vacancies for this post is around 1064.
  • There are three sections in SSC Stenographer question paper.
  • Candidates have to answer questions from all the three sections: general awareness, reasoning and English language.

Here are some important things that candidates must know about the syllabus and the exam pattern of SSC Stenographer examination:

  • The question paper of SSC Stenographer examination is of 200 marks. Each question carries 1 mark.
  • 50 questions are asked from general intelligence and reasoning.
  • 50 questions are asked from general awareness.
  • 100 questions are asked from English language and comprehension.
  • The duration of SSC Stenographer examination is 2 hours. Only for handicapped candidates, the duration of the examination is 2 hours 40 minutes.
  • There is negative marking in SSC Stenographer examination. 0.25 marks will be deducted for every wrong answer.

The next subject of SSC Stenographer examination is general awareness. 50 questions are asked from this subject. The objective of this section is to test the general awareness of candidates about the environment around them. Questions from this section are designed to test the knowledge of candidates about current events.

The topics included by SSC under General Awareness are as follows:

  • Current events- National and International
  • Geography of India
  • Culture and Heritage of India

The objective of this section is to test the understanding of candidates of the English language that includes grammar, vocabulary, sentence structure, antonyms, synonyms, writing ability and correct usage of the language.
