SSC CGL Exam Pattern has undergone several changes over the years. The Staff Selection Commission has introduced a descriptive paper of Hindi/ English as Tier III while duration for Tier I has been reduced to 60 minutes from 75 minutes.Check Changes Introduced in SSC CGL 2017

SSC will hold the recruitment exam in four tiers. They are as follows:

Tier I – Computer Based Examination (Objective Type Questions)

Tier II -  Computer Based Examination (Objective Type Questions)

Tier III – Pen and Paper Based Examination (Descriptive Exam in Hindi/ English)

Tier IV – Skill Test/ Computer Proficiency Test/ Document Verification

SSC CGL Tier II Exam Pattern 2017

Tier I qualified candidates appear for SSC CGL Tier II. It is also a mandatory examination, having questions of objective type. Listed below are facts related to Tier II of SSC CGL:

  • The examination comprises four papers viz.
    • Paper 1 – Quantitative Ability
    • Paper 2 – English Language and Comprehension
    • Paper 3 – Statistics
    • Paper 4 – General Studies (Finance and Economics)
  • Paper 1 and Paper 2 are compulsory for all the posts.
  • SSC CGL Statistics Paper 3 is exclusively for the post of Jr. Statistical Officer (JSO) and Compiler Post.

  • Duration of Exam -  2 hours for general category and for VH & cerebral palsy it is 2 hours 40 minutes.

SSC CGL 2017 Tier III Exam Pattern

SSC CGL Tier 3 is a descriptive test. The examination is conducted exclusively for the post of Statistical Investigator Gr II and Compiler.

  • Mode of Examination: Offline mode
  • Duration of Exam: 60 minutes for general category and 80 minutes for VH and Cerebral Palsy candidates.
  • Exam Medium: Bilingual (Hindi and English)
  • Maximum Marks – 100 marks
  • Marking Scheme - No negative marking
  • In this exam, candidates are required to write Essays, Letters, Precie or Application of approximately 500 words.

  • The exam is introduced to evaluate candidate’s aptitude in writing/ Language Skill Proficiency.

SSC CGL Tier IV Exam Pattern 2017

Candidates scoring minimum qualifying marks in Tier 1 and 2 are eligible to attend this exam. The examination is qualifying in nature. The online examination involves Data Entry Skill Test (DEST)/ Computer Proficiency Test (CPT). 

SSC CGL Tier IV Exam Pattern for DEST 

Data Entry Skill Test will be for the post of Tax Assistant (Central Excise and Income Tax). The exam test candidate’s typing speed will be tested at 8,000 (eight thousand) Key Depression per hour on Computer. CheckCareer Prospects of Tax Assistant

SSC CGL Tier IV Exam Pattern for CPT

The Computer Proficiency Test is only meant for Asst. Section Officer in CSS or MEA or Serious Fraud Investigation Officer post only.

  • SSC will hold CPT in three modules namely
    • Word Processing,
    • Spread Sheet and
    • Generation of Slides
  • Syllabus for CPT is complete knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word/ Excel/ PowerPoint).
  • Candidates who are appearing for CPT will be allotted 45 minutes in total to complete the examination but Visually Handicapped and Hearing Handicapped candidates are not exempted from DEST.

SSC CGL Tier I Exam Pattern 2017

Tier I in SSC CGL is a qualifying examination. The questions are objective type in nature. Candidates can answer the questions in Hindi or English. Listed below are quick facts about SSC CGL Tier I Exam Pattern:

  • Examination Mode – Online
  • No. of Sections -  four sections viz. General Intelligence & Reasoning, General Awareness, Quantitative Aptitude and English Comprehension.
  • Duration of Exam – 60 minutes for general category and 80 minutes for VH & Cerebral Palsy category
  • Maximum Marks – 200 marks (no sectional time limit)
  • The marks obtained in this stage will be used for further processes.
