How to prepare for NIFT 2015

NIFT Entrance Exam 2015 is conducted by National Institute of Fashion technology every year in month of February 2015. It provides admission to design courses like Master of Design, Bachelor of Design, Master of fashion technology, Master of fashion management and bachelor of fashion technology. This year exam will take place on February 8 and February 22, 2015. It comprises of two tests — paper based test and computer test.

There is large number of applicants appearing for the exam every year so candidates should prepare hard. Competition is increasing and many students are competing for the limited number of seats.

Preparation tips

Following preparation tips will help the candidates to get an edge over others not only in exam but also other rounds of admission like group discussion, interview etc.

  • One word you should stick to is "practice". Sketch anything you come across.
  • Update yourself regularly with various newspapers, relevant magazines and websites.
  • Get some ideas from posters, banners and advertisements you see.
  • To become confident and to get your lines become bolder, keep eraser away while sketching.
  • Try giving importance to detailing where it is required such as face of human figure or outfits etc.
  • Expertise in skill of human illustration and calligraphy.
  • Practice different styles of lettering.
  • Syllabus of NIFT exam should be done thoroughly.
  • Firstly make a light sketch and then darken it. It will save time.
  • In exam use quality color pencils like faber castle color pencils with at least 24 shades.
  • Before sketching plan your ideas first.
  • Practice earlier with simple designs and then move ahead to the complicated and difficult ones.
  • Plan your time schedule in exam so that you can attempt the complete paper.

Entrance exam generally consists of two tests- Creative aptitude test and General aptitude test.

Creative aptitude test (CAT) assesses intuition skill, observation power, innovative and creative ideas about concept development and ability to design of the students.

General aptitude test (GAT) consists of questions from various topics such as quantitative ability, communication ability, English comprehension, analytical ability. It will also assess knowledge about general issues and current affairs of candidates. It also includes a case study to test their response to managerial ability.

Group discussion and personal interview have 30% weighatge in all courses except Bachelor of Design and Bachelor of fashion technology.

In Bachelor of design CAT has 50% weighatge, GAT has 30% and situation test has 20%.

In Bachelor of fashion technology, GAT has 100% weighatge. In Master of Design courses, CAT has 40% proportion and GAT has 30%. In master of fashion technology and amster of fashion management , GAT has 70% weighatge.
