The SC has extended the counselling dates to fill the medical seats in various medical colleges of in the state of Andhra Pradesh, as well as Telangana. While last date of medical counseling has been extended, on the other side, counselling for convenor quota seats has been completed in both the states.
On the matter of extension of the AP EAMCET Counselling 2016 dates, a bench comprising of Justice Anil R Dave, Justice L Nageswar Rao and Justice Lalit heard the arguments that were presented by the State Government, private medical college managements and the Medical Council of India (MCI). The SC gave a considerable amount of its time, and after looking deep into the matter, it nodded to extend the dates from September 30, 2016 to October 7, 2016. The court said that it has agreed to come up with a new AP EAMCET Counselling date since, the states were not able to complete the AP EAMCET Counselling Process 2016 in the set time.
Counsel for TS Mukul Rohatgi argued, that as the EAMCET paper got leaked, the government was forced to hold EAMCET-3 which had resulted in this delay. Only the first round of counselling could be completed, he said, pleading for 15 days’ time over and above the deadline.
Counsel for AP Rajgopal argued, that as Andhra Pradesh too would be affected due the admission provisions under the clause 371 D which stipulated that 15 per cent seats were to be filled with non-locals (which it needs to share with TS), his client too needed a similar extension. Counsel for the managements of the private colleges Ramesh Allanki too argued on similar lines.
In response to the above arguments, the MCI opposed the petitions that requested for an extension of the EAMCET Counselling Dates. It added that such extensions will be demanded by other states too and hence, which can create problems in future.
After hearing all the parties, the bench agreed to give a week’s extension, keeping in mind the piquant situation arising out of the paper leak and the problem of Telugu students.
Kalaji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences (KNRUHS) vice chancellor, Karunakar Reddy, expressed his satisfaction over the dates being extended.
