NATIONAL LEVEL ONLINE TEST
IIT Roorkee has released the GATE Mock Test. The candidates who have applied for GATE 2017 can download these mock tests and practice them to learn which section to work on. Looking at the mock test it can be learnt that GATE 2017 will contain two types of questions. One will be multiple choice questions (MCQ Type) and the other will be numerical answer type. The duration of exam will be three hours and there will be 65 questions consisting of 100 marks. There will be negative marking for wrong answer but no negative marking for numerical answer type questions. Some changes have been introduced in this year’s exam. The Engineering Sciences paper will consist of total eight sections (A-H). The eighth section will be Atmospheric and Ocean Sciences. The candidates will be given scribble pad for rough work which they will have to return before leaving the exam hall.
GATE 2017 will be conducted in online mode (computer based test) for all 23 papers. The exam is slated to be held between 4 February 2017 and 12 February 2017 at various GATE centres. The exam will be conducted in two shifts on weekends.

Here we are analyzing the mock test that has been released by IIT Roorkee. This will help candidates to plan their strategy for GATE 2017.
Apart from testing the core engineering skills, paper will also test your general ability like language and analytical skills. This section consists of 15 marks. There will also be questions from engineering mathematics. It will also consist of 15 marks. The remaining 70% questions will be from core subjects.
The question paper will consist of multiple choice questions and numerical type questions. There will be four options for multiple choice questions from which candidates will have to choose one correct option. For numerical type questions, there will be no options. The candidates will have to enter the correct answer using virtual keyboard.

Geology and Geophysics paper :-
Apart from general aptitude section, the geology and geophysics section consist of two parts: Part A and Part B. Part A is common for all candidates. Part B consists of two sections – section 1(geology) and section 2(geophysics). Candidates will have to attempt Part A and attempt either section 1 or section 2 in Part B. There will be 25 questions in Part A consisting of 25 marks and 30 questions in Part B consisting of 60 marks.
XE (ENGINEERING SCIENCES) paper :-
There will be following sections which candidates will have to answer in GATE 2017 XE paper.
Candidates can select two sections from B-G during the examination after viewing the questions. Only two optional sections can be answered at a time. Candidates can also change the subject in the midway of the examination to another optional section, but for this, candidates will have to deselect one of the previously selected optional subject from B-G.
This section contains total 33 questions consisting of 50 marks. Each of the other sections from B-G contains 22 questions consisting of 35 marks. Some questions may be of numerical answer type.
XL (LIFE SCIENCES) paper :-
There will be following sections which candidates will have to answer in GATE 2017 XL paper.
Candidates can select two sections from I-M during the examination after viewing the questions. Only two optional sections can be answered at a time. Candidates can also change the subject in the midway of the examination to another optional section, but for this, candidates will have to deselect one of the previously selected optional subjects from I-M.
This section contains 35 questions consisting of 55 marks. Section H contains 15 questions of 25 marks and some questions may be of numerical type. Each of the other sections of XL paper from section I-M contains 20 questions carrying a total of 30 marks. 10 questions are of 1 mark each and the remaining 10 of 2 marks each.
