Q. 1 What Course did you take GATE for?
I took GATE for M.Tech in Civil Engineering.
Q. 2 Did you take coaching classes? Mention their role in your story.
I didn't take any technical coaching class. I just underwent online videos for preparation for GATE.
Q. 3 What mock papers did you take?
I followed only mock GATE Papers by ACE Coaching Institute.
Q. 4 What are the websites you followed for getting regular updates and preparation?
For regular technical updates, I used to check website that was dedicated for Gate 2014, http://aceenggacademy.com/ and http://www.madeeasy.in/
Q. 5 Share the name of the books and materials that you followed for excelling in GATE?
I studied from study material provided by ACE Coaching and standard books such as Gopal Ranjan (Soil), Ramamruthan (Strength of Materials), Subramanyam (Hydrology), B.C.Pumia (Irrigation), Khanna and Gesto (Highway).
Q. 6 Write some of the preparation tips for someone who is starting 4 and 2 months before the exam?
Stay focused. Check the pattern in which questions are asked in previous years. Practice the use of virtual calculator. Don’t leave these 5 subjects: Strength of Materials, Fluid Mechanics, Soil & Geo Technical Engineering, Environmental Engineering and Highway Engineering. Apart from these topics, leave 30-40% of remaining syllabus which you think is hard to understand. Practice hard in Mathematics and Aptitude (As these 2 subjects make 30% weightage).
Q. 7 Share your Strategy and how did you overcome the weak areas, what special efforts did you put in?
Practice the virtual calculator a lot. Make a formula book and keep revising the formulae. Practice the applications of studied formulae. The parameters in the formulae should be given special care while remembering as most of the questions are solved by direct application of formula but with a slight twist with any of the parameters. Don’t forget to study these 5 subjects: Strength of Materials, Fluid Mechanics, Soil and Geo Technical Engineering, Environmental Engineering and Highway Engineering.
