Factors Affecting GATE Cut off

The GATE 2017 cut-off is the minimum score required by a candidate to take admission in postgraduate courses offered by various different colleges and universities. Candidates who appeared in GATE 2017 are required to secure equal to or more than the cut-off as declared by GATE 2017 in order to clear the exam.

The GATE cut-off varies from course to course and college to college. Every deferent College or universities decides it’s own cut off (minimum marks) according to the seats that institute have.

  • Total number of seats offered: More the no. of seats available, lower would be the cut off for the particular institute.
  • Number of students appearing for the exam : Higher the number of candidates appearing for the exam, higher will be the cut off.
  • Difficulty level of exam : This factor is inversely related. Whenever the exams are on the difficult side, the cut offs tend to fall.
  • Last years cut off : This is more for the predictive analysis. This can help the candidates in analyzing the cut off of the present year Exam.
  • Average performance of the candidate in the exam.
  • Lowest and average marks scored in the exam.
  • Marking scheme including negative marking.

Jadavpur University Seats Intake

Jadavpur University reserves 40 per cent of its postgraduate seats for students from other universities.

According to a Jadavpur University official, the move has been prompted by an urge to draw best brains at the master’s level through competition and a government advisory to set aside 40 per cent postgraduate seats for external students.

According to the Jadavpur University 60 per cent of the postgraduate seats will be set for their own university students, who will be selected according to merit and if seats remained vacant after taking in all its undergraduate students willing to do post graduation there then the students will be selected through the GATE Entrance Exam.
