GATE 2018 Syllabus for Agriculture Engineering (AG)

GATE 2018 is scheduled for February 03, 04, 10 and 11, 2018. It consists of 23 papers including Agriculture Engineering (AG). GATE 2018 is conducted by Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati. The entire syllabus of each paper is available on the official website of IIT, Guwahati. Candidates applying for GATE Agriculture Engineering (AG) paper can check the complete GATE Syllabus from this article.

  • Agriculture Engineering paper consists of seven sections namely- Engineering Mathematics, Farm Machinery, Farm Power, Soil and Water Conservation Engineering, Irrigation and Drainage Engineering, Agricultural Processing Engineering, and Dairy and Food Engineering.
  • The question paper consists of 60 questions worth 100 marks. 
  • Applicants have to attempt all the questions in the duration of three hours. 

GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) is a national level online test (pen and paper based test). The exam is held for admission to M.Tech and Ph.D. programs in the field of engineering and technology. It is conducted on rotational basis by zonal IITs and IISc Bangalore. For the academic year 2018-19, Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati will hold GATE.


GATE AG Syllabus 2018- Engineering Mathematics

Engineering Mathematics is one of the important and tough section of GATE exam. The section carries 15% weihtage of questions in the question paper. Engineering Mathematics is the branch of applied mathematics concerning mathematical methods and techniques that are typically used in engineering and industry.

GATE AG Syllabus 2018- Farm Machinery

Farm Machinery is mechanery that is used or intended for use in farming operations, including any combine, tractor, implement, engine, motor or attachment, but not including a motor vehicle within the meaning of the Highway Traffic. This section has two topics nemely- Machine Design and Farm Machinery.

Farm MachinerySoil tillage; forces acting on a tillage tool; hitch systems and hitching of tillage implements; functional requirements, principles of working, construction and operation of manual, animal and power operated equipment for tillage, sowing, planting, fertilizer application, inter-cultivation, spraying, mowing, chaff cutting, harvesting, threshing and transport; testing of agricultural machinery and equipment; calculation of performance parameters - field capacity, efficiency, application rate and losses; cost analysis of implements and tractors.

Farm power is one of the most expensive and critical inputs when growing a rice crop. Humans, animals and machines are all used as sources of power in agriculture production. When undertaking different operations on a farm, a certain amount of work is required to complete the task.

GATE AG Syllabus 2018- Agricultural Processing Engineering

Agricultural Engineering deals with the design of farm machinery, the location and planning of farm structures, farm drainage, soil management and erosion control, water supply and irrigation, rural electrification, and the processing of farm products. There are four topics in agricultural engineering mentioned below.
