RRB NTPC Recruitment 2016: Check Exam Pattern & Syllabus

RRB has released the official dates of Railway Recruitment against 18252 Posts. As per the schedule, the examination will be held in between March and May, 2017.

The Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) has not provided the clear guidelines about the syllabus structure and the examination pattern. However, from the analysis of the papers of previous years a briefing about the syllabus and the exam pattern is drawn. This article helps the aspirants in cracking the RRB NTPC 2016 Exam.

The expected examination pattern and the detailed syllabus for the upcoming Railway Exam are given.

RRB NTPC 2016 Examination Pattern

From the analysis of the previous years, the examination pattern for RRB Railway Recruitment Examination 2016 has been deduced by the experts. As per the analysis, it is clear that the question paper will comprise 100 Question covering the 4 sections in total. Each section will have a different number of questions with a variable number of questions. The four sections from which the questions will be asked are enlisted:

  1. General Awareness
  2. Arithmetic Ability
  3. Reasoning  and  General Intelligence
  4. General Science

The question paper is to be solved in 1 and half hour (i.e. 90 minutes). The details of the examination like the weight of each section and the number of questions asked from each section are tabulated below:

From the table it is clear that the section “General Awareness” carries a maximum number of questions and thus requires more focus followed by the rest three sections.

It should be noted that there will be negative marking in the question paper. For every incorrect answer, 1/3rd mark will be deducted from the total marks obtained by the candidate. Candidate thus should not make any random guesses while solving the question paper.

RRB NTPC 2016 Arithmetic Syllabus

This section covers the questions based on the Quantitative Aptitude and Data Interpretation. Candidate needs to practice this section and increase his/ her accuracy and speed to solve questions in the minimum possible time. The topics to be covered to solve this section are:

  • Time and Work
  • Data Interpretation: Bar Graphs, Line Graphs, Pie Charts, tables etc.
  • Pipe and Cistern
  • Simplification
  • Problems on Age
  • Speed Calculation
  • Simple and  Compound Interest
  • Time and Distance: Problems on Boats and Streams, Trains etc.
  • Profit and  Loss
  • Margins and Discounts
  • Averages
  • Linear and Quadratic Equations
  • Area and  Volume

RRB NTPC 2016 Reasoning and General Intelligence

The syllabus for this section is a bit vast. Apart from the normal preparation the candidate needs to solve the previous year’s question papers on regular basis to get a clear idea of the type of questions to be asked in RRB NTPC Recruitment Examination. RRB NTPC 2016 General Awareness Syllabus

This section carries the maximum marks and also contains a wide variety of questions from con Static General Knowledge and Current Affairs. This section needs more effort compared to the other sections as a level of difficulty and the number of questions asked is relatively high. candidates are suggested to be updated of all the current affairs by reading read about the national and the international news and other major happenings from the source materials dated at least three months before the day of the RRB Recruitment. The main topics on which the candidate can focus to clear this section with a good score are enlisted:

  • Indian Economy
  • Indian Geography
  • Indian History
  • Indian Policy
  • Indian Railways - Facts and Figures, History etc.
  • Indian Culture  and Heritage
  • Current Affairs: National and International news, Prominent  Organizations, People and person in News, prominent deaths and  demises, latest Awards and Award winners, inventions and discoveries in Science and  Technology, happenings in Sports, Government Policies etc.
  • Static Affairs: National and International, Organizations, Science & Technology, Awards & Honours, Yearbook, Dates, Days etc.) 

RRB NTPC 2016 General Science Syllabus

This section can be easily covered by consulting the old NCERT books. The main topics to be covered for this section are:

  • Basic Biology
  • Basic Chemistry
  • Basic Physics
  • Basic Environmental Studies
