# SSC CGL Mains 2016 Preparation Tips

SSC CGL is a national level competitive exam that will be conducted in 4 phases every year- Tier 1, Tier 2, Tier 3, Tier 4. SSC CGL Tier II exam is scheduled to be held from November 30, 2016 to December 3, 2016.

SSC CGL is conducted in both online (for Tier 1 and Tier 2) as well as Pen and Paper (for Tier 3 and Tier 4) mode. SSC CGL Mains 2016 exam comprises of 4 different papers. Depending upon the post applied by candidate, they are given choice for Paper 3 and Paper 4.

Each question will carry 2 marks, 0.50 marks will be deducted for wrong answers. Candidates qualifying in the Tier II exam will be eligible to appear for Tier III exam.

### SSC CGL Tier II 2016 Quantitative Aptitude

SSC CGL Tier II exam comprises of 4 papers. Paper 1 of Tier II is Quantitative Abilities. This paper will consist of 100 questions, every question will carry 2 marks each. 0.50 marks will be deducted for every wrong answer. The questions put up in this paper test the candidate’s number sense and use of numbers.

#### Syllabus- Quantitative Aptitude

Quantitative Aptitude Paper will test candidate’s ability to deal with numbers and usage applied through numbers. The scope of this paper is the computation of whole numbers, decimals, fractions and relationships between numbers, Percentage. Ratio & Proportion, Square roots, Averages, Interest, Profit and Loss, Discount, Partnership Business, Mixture and Allegation, Time and distance, Time & Work, Basic algebraic identities of School Algebra & Elementary surds, Graphs of Linear Equations

Triangle and its various kinds of centers, Congruence and similarity of triangles, Circle and its chords, tangents, angles subtended by chords of a circle, common tangents to two or more circles, Triangle, Quadrilaterals, Regular Polygons , Circle, Right Prism, Right Circular Cone, Right Circular Cylinder, Sphere, Hemispheres, Rectangular Parallelepiped, Regular Right Pyramid with triangular or square base, Trigonometric ratio, Degree and Radian Measures, Standard Identities, Complementary angles, Heights and Distances, Histogram, Frequency polygon, Bar diagram & Pie chart.

SSC CGL Paper I of Tier II exam revolves around numbers and geometrical concepts. The syllabus covered in Paper I is based on the education standards of class 10.

#### Exam pattern- Quantitative Abilities

Paper I, Quantitative Abilities of Tier II SSC CGL 2016 exam will be conducted for 200 marks. 2 hours will be given to attempt 100 questions related to numbers. Paper I is a compulsory paper, unlike Paper 3 and Paper 4. Follow the table given below to understand the pattern of Paper I:

### SSC CGL Tier II Verbal Ability

Paper 2 of Tier II exam is Verbal Ability, also known as English Language and Comprehension. The exam pattern of this Paper is similar to Paper 1, i.e. in the duration of 2 hours (2 hours 40 minutes for Cerebral Palsy and VH Candidates), candidates will have to attempt 100 questions.

As the name of the paper suggests, candidate’s comprehension capabilities will be tested. The paper tests knowledge of English Language concepts.

#### Syllabus- verbal ability

The syllabus included in this paper relates to basic English language concepts such as, Spot the error, fill in the blanks, synonyms, antonyms, spelling/detecting misspelt words, idioms & phrases, one word substitution, improvement of sentences, active/passive voice of verbs, conversion into direct/indirect narration, shuffling of sentence parts, shuffling of sentences in a passage, cloze passage & comprehension passage.

The questions put up in this paper will be class 12 level of difficulty. Candidates will have to concentrate on polishing the basic concepts and indulge in intensive practice to secure fairly good marks.

#### Exam pattern- Verbal Ability

Verbal Ability i.e. English Language and Comprehension Paper will comprise of 100 questions, each carrying 2 marks and .50 marks will be deducted for every wrong answer. Paper 2 will test candidate’s knowledge of English language and comprehension skills. The pattern of Paper 2 has been given below for candidate’s convenience:

### SSC CGL Tier II 2016 Expected Cut Off

SSC releases cut off after conducting exam for each tier. Candidates can proceed to the next tier, only if they successfully qualify in the previous tier exam with expected marks set by SSC. Candidates who will qualify in Tier I exam will appear for Tier II exam to be conducted by SSC from November 30, 2016 to December 3, 2016.

The cut off is released by keeping in mind various factors such number of candidates appearing for the exam, number of seats available, preferences indicated by the candidates, etc.
