SSC CGL 2017 Zone Wise Posts in CBEC

SSC CGL 2017 notification has been released online. Tier-1 exam is scheduled in multiple dates starting from August 1, 2017. This year many new changes have been introduced such as duration of Tier-1 has been reduced from 75 minutes to 60 minutes

Tier 2 will be conducted in November 2017. Candidates who qualify tier II will have option to choose among number of ministries’ post through SSC CGL. SSC CGL is unified recruitment exam conducted for 30 various Government posts. Candidates while filling up of SSC CGL Application form have to fill preference order of these 30 posts.

CBEC was established in 1855 with responsibility for Customs, Central Excise, Narcotics and Service tax in India. It has been now renamed as Central Board of Indirect taxes and Customs. The ministry admits candidates for various posts through SSC CGL every year. It releases separate qualifying cut off marks on the basis SSC CGL Scores. Earlier there were only 2 tiers of SSC CGL and candidates would get recruited on their performance in Tier 1 and Tier 2 collectively. However from 2016, 2 more tiers were introduced which were qualifying in nature. Tier 3 is a descriptive test and Tier 4 is conducted for non- interview posts

This article contains the zone wise posts offered under CBEC (Central Board and Excise Custom). It is one the most focused ministry by CGL applicants. The promotion rate, perks and allowances are higher than other ministries. Also, number of vacancies under this ministry is quite large.  Candidates are majorly posted at 11 coastal regions in India. However, after serving the fixed tenure of service they get posted to other regions also(varies post wise)

The salary breakdown of Examiner is as follows:-

  • Pay Scale: Rs. 9,300 – 34,800/-
  • Grade Pay: Rs. 4,600/-
  • Initial Pay: Rs. 9,300/-
  • Total Pay: Rs. 13,900/-

Apart from the regular fixed pay, Examiner is also liable for various perks and allowances as follows :-

  1. DA on Total Pay above (around 107%)
  2. Transport Allowance (TA)
  3. House Rent Allowance (if not provided with quarters)
  4. Petrol Allowance
  5. Mobile Bill (limited)

SSC CGL CBEC Job Profile

Examiner

It is one of the most sought out profile in SSC CGL. Duty of an examiner is to examine and give clearances to goods and cargos through coastal areas.

Work Location- Usually the employees are posted in some coastal areas. They can be posted at following coastal areas

  • Mumbai
  • Kolkata
  • Kochi or Cochin
  • Goa
  • Vizag

The main benefit of getting posted as an examiner is that promotion rate is higher than other posts. The promotion hierarchy is as follows :-

  • Appraiser (Group-B Gazetted)
  • Assistant Commissioner
  • Deputy Commissioner
  • Joint Commissioner
  • Commissioner

Inspector Preventive officer

The Preventive officers in CBEC usually get first promotion after 8 to 10 years of service. Usually a preventive officer gets 2 types of posting

  • Office Posting-  This includes desk work with normal working hours.
  • Field Posting- During field posting employees have work in multiple shifts

Promotion hierarchy followed is

  • Superintendent of Customs (Group B Gazetted officer)
  • Assistant Commissioner

After 3 years of service, A preventive officer gets both appraisal and promotion. They get promoted to Superintendent post.

SSC CGL CBEC Transfer Options

In the Examiner profile, Employee gets posted only in coastal region. No spouse clause can be used for transfer purpose. The Employee may get temporary deputation (usually 1 year) to Northern India, However, permanently they have to serve in coastal region only.

For preventive officer and central excise inspector posts, employees generally get transfer after 8-10 years of service.
