Last Updated - May 31, 2017

The GA section of SSC CGL can be very scoring if one tackles it wisely. Unlike other sections of SSC CGL Tier I, the general awareness section doesn’t require any calculations and thus, is the least time-consuming section. The full form of CGLE is Combined Graduate Level Examination. The procedure of the exam consists of three stages:

  • Tier-I
  • Tier-II
  • Tier-III

The notification for SSC CGL 2017 is out, candidates who are preparing or are planning to prepare for CGL exam should be aware of the fact that CGL exam consists of a section on General Awareness. The section includes 25 questions with each question carrying 2 marks. General Awareness is considered as a make or break section by many aspirants. In the later part of the article we will discuss some preparation strategies that can be taken into account wile preparing for the general Awareness section of CGLE, subtopics of main subjects included in GA section of CGLE, marks distribution and some of the recommended books topic-wise.

How GA can Improve your Marks in SSC CGL Tier I

One needs to focus on GA as much as Reasoning and Quantitative aptitude. Here's why General Awareness can take a CGLE aspirant to a safer spot if taken seriously:

  • More marks in less time: Since it is less calculation based, you can attempt the entire GA section quickly. Even if you prepare science and technology, sports and current affairs nicely, you can look forward to to score at least 20 marks.

Less chance to score negative marks: Again, since there is nothing to solve in General Awareness questions, you will always know whether you know the response or not. This means there is no chance that you will knowingly mark an answer wrong.

Preparation Strategy for General Awareness for SSC CGL 2017

The General Awareness segment of SSC CGL Tier I exam can be a scoring section and a step between getting good and average marks in CGLE, provided the answers are given appropriately.

The first footstep toward GA preparation is to make a list of topic from each of the categories mentioned in the article and assess your knowledge in each category, with evaluation of your current familiarity about the topics, you can plan your preparation accordingly.

In case of Science, the best move is to revise all that was studied in school and understand each concept. If your concept is clear, you would find it easier to memorize the topics.

In case of static GK there is a need to revise on a regular basis because it does not involve concepts and you need to memorize the information. Also, it has been observed by many SSC CGLE toppers over the past years that previous year examination papers prove to be great help when preparing for General Awareness section.
