SSC CHSL Exam Pattern 2016

Staff Selection Commission conducts CHSL Exam (Combined Higher Secondary Level) in 3 tiers- Tier 1, Tier 2 and Tier 3. Tier 1 is an Objective Test and is held in online mode. Candidates who qualify Tier 1 are eligible to appear for Tier 2. Tier 2 is a Descriptive Test and is held to check writing skills of the candidates. On the basis of the candidate’s performance in the Tier-I and II, they will be called for the skill test/typing test.

SSC CHSL Typing Test/ Skill Test is qualifying in nature. Total marks scored in SSC CHSL Tier 1 and Tier 2 are considered in determining the final merit list. SSC CHSL Exam Pattern 2016 has been prescribed by the Commission.

SSC CHSL Exam Pattern Highlights

SSC CHSL Tier 1 will be conducted in computer mode. The number of questions in tier 1 has been reduced from 50 questions to 25 questions. Knowing SSC CHSL exam pattern helps the candidates in understanding the sections, number of questions, duration, marking scheme of the exam. Getting familiar with the SSC CHSL exam pattern helps the candidate in preparing better for the exam.

SSC CHSL Exam Pattern 2016: Tier 1 (Objective Test)

SSC CHSL 2016 is a computer mode test. The total marks for the SSC CHSL tier 1 exam are 200 marks. The total number of questions are 100 in tier 1 exam. The time duration for tier 1 exam is 75 minutes for all the students. The committee has extended the duration to 100 minutes for the VH (Visually Handicapped) candidates and for the candidates suffering from cerebral palsy. The SSC CHSL tier 1 exam pattern included the details of the questions in various segments.

SSC CHSL Exam Pattern 2016: Tier 2 (Descriptive Paper)

SSC CHSL Tier II Paper is a Descriptive Paper of 100 Marks. The duration of the paper would be for 60 minutes (1 hour). 20 minutes compensatory time is provided to the candidates suffering from VH and cerebral palsy. SSC CHSL tier II comprises of an Essay Writing (200-250 words) and Application Writing (150-200 words).

The minimum qualifying marks in Tier-II would be 33%. The performance in Tier II would be included for preparing SSC CHSL merit list. SSC CHSL tier 2 has to be written either in Hindi or in English Language. Partly written in Hindi and Part in English will not be evaluated.

SSC CHSL Exam Pattern 2016: Tier 3

SSC CHSL Tier 3 would continue to be the Skill Test and Typing Test. Typing Test would be conducted only for candidates applying for Data Entry Operator (DEO). Skill Test is conducted for the candidates appearing for recruitment in LDC, Court Clerk and Postal Assistant/Sorting Assistant. Candidates have to indicate their choice of language medium at the time of SSC CHSL Registration. The skill test is held at the Commission's Regional Offices or other centers as may be decided by the Commission.

SSC CHSL Skill Test: Data Entry speed of 8,000 key depressions per hour on computer. The ‘Speed of 8000 key depressions per hour on Computer’ will be checked on the basis of the correct entry of words/key depressions as per the given passage. The duration of Skill Test is 15 minutes. The printed passage would be containing about 2000-2200 key depressions/ strokes.

Candidates who have disability more than 40% in writing hand, will be allowed 20 minutes compensatory time for the skill test. Skill Test is a qualifying test for the candidates appearing for Data Entry. Candidates will have to qualify the test at the prescribed speed on Computer, provided by the Commission at the Centre/venue so notified.

SSC CHSL Typing Test: It is conducted in English or Hindi language. The medium of the test has to be indicated in SSC CHSL Online Application Formduring Registration Process. It is a qualifying test and will be administered on computer. Those candidates who have opted for English medium, should have a typing speed of 35 words per minute and those candidates who have mentioned Hindi medium, should have 30 words per minute.

The speed is adjudged on the accuracy of the typing of a given text passage in 10 minutes on the computer. VH candidates (more than 40% disability) are given a compensatory time of 20 minutes (total time: 30 minutes).
