UPSC IAS Prelims 2017 exam is on June 18, 2017. It will be conducted in one day only.

Cut off is dependent on multiple factors but the difficulty level of the paper and change in the trend of the exams is the most important factor.
Approximately 60 questions were asked from the GK and CA section, so it had 29% weightage.

There are two papers in UPSC preliminary paper. Paper 1 is called GS 1 and paper 2 is called GS 2.
UPSC syllabus covers every speck of information that can be gained on the planet. But, there are constant efforts put in by UPSC team to make the exam syllabus a little easy. This does not mean that the syllabus has been trimmed, just there are some changes:
|2011||Optional subject exam was replaced by CSAT.|
|2013||2 optional subjects were replaced by one optional subject. GS papers were restructured. Previous 2 papers were divided into 3 papers, a new paper was introduced. Name of paper 4 was “Ethics, Integrity and Aptitude’. Marks allotted for essay section increased from 200 to 250. Word limit was reduced and number of questions increased.|
|2014||Number of essays increased from 1 to 2. Now there are two sections with four optional choices which previously was a single section with four optional choices. Permitted attempts increased from 4 to 6. Maximum age limit increased from 40 to 42.|
|2015||Only GS was now considered for merit, CSAT became the qualifying exam.|
UPSC IAS mains exam is a written exam which is designed to test the academic talent, the ability to present the information precisely and in a coherent manner.
