CDS 1 2017 Notification and Exam Date Released

UPSC has released the latest notification for CDS 1 2017. The registration process for UPSC CDS has started and can be done till December 2, 2016 (6:00 PM). CDS is a written examination conducted twice a year by UPSC (Union Public Service Commission) for recruitment of Permanent Commissioned Officers for Indian Armed Forces. CDS 1 2017 exam is scheduled to be conducted on February 5, 2017.

Eligibility For UPSC CDS 1 2017

The minimum age of the candidate should be 19 years in order to be eligible for UPSC CDS exam. However, the upper age limit differs for Indian Military (24 Years), Naval Academy (22 Years), Air Force Academy (23 Years) and Officers’ Training Academy (25 Years). The educational qualification criteria varies according to the post the candidate has applied.

A candidate must either be a

  1. Citizen of India
  2. Subject of Bhutan
  3. Subject of Nepal
  4. A Tibetan refugee who has migrated to India before January 01, 1962, intending to settle permanently in India

A PIO (Person of Indian Origin) who has moved from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka and East African Countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire and Ethiopia or Vietnam intending to settle permanently in India.

UPSC CDS 1 2017 Registration Process

Candidates have to apply for CDS I 2017 in online mode only through the official website of UPSC. CDS 2017 Application Form is divided into 2 parts – Part I and Part II Registration. Part I of theCDS Registration requires all the personal and educational details about the applicants. Part II Requires candidates’ to pay the Application Fee and attach their scanned photograph & Signature. The Application Fee has to be paid after completion of Part I Registration.

UPSC CDS 1 2017 Application Fee

Post completing the UPSC part 1 registration, a fee of INR 200 has to be paid to complete the online application form. Fee payment can be done by any of the following options-

  • Payment in Cash
  • Payment through Internet Banking
  • Payment through Visa /Master/ Debit Card/ Credit Card

Candidates belonging to SC/ST category and female candidates are exempted from paying application fees.

CDS I 2017 Exam Pattern

The competitive exam comprises of- written examination and interview for intelligence & personality test. The written exam is pen paper based objective entrance examination. No change in pattern is reported in CDS 1 2017 exam. Written examination consists of 3 papers (2 papers for OTA):

  1. English Language (100 marks)
  2. General Knowledge (100 marks)
  3. Elementary Mathematics (100 marks)

Each paper is given a duration of 2 hours to complete 120 questions. Candidate appearing for OTA have to appear only in English and GK papers. Each question has 4 options out of which only 1 is correct. CDS 2017 exam has a provision of negative marking. For every wrong marked answer, 1/3 of the marks allotted is deducted. 

The question booklets of General Knowledge and Elementary Mathematics are set bilingually in Hindi and English language. Under no circumstance, candidates will be allowed the help of scribe to write answers.

Interview Marking Scheme

Candidates qualifying CDS written exam will be called for Interview. The selection of the candidates is on the basis of marks scored in the interviews. Total marks for interview for Indian Military Academy, Naval Academy, and Air Force Academy is 300 marks. While the total marks for interview for OTA is 200 marks.

CDS I 2017 Selection Process

The SSB procedure consists of 2 stage Selection Process for recruiting candidates- stage 1 and stage 2. Only those candidates who clear the stage 1 are permitted to appear for stage 2.

Stage I comprises of Officer Intelligence Rating (OIR) tests are Picture Perception Description Test (PP & DT). The candidates will be shortlisted based on combination of performance in OIR Test and PP & DT.

Stage II Comprises of Interview, Group Testing Officer Tasks, Psychology Tests and the Conference. These tests are conducted over 4 days. The details of these tests are given on the website.
