How to fill CLAT Application Form 2017?

CLAT is a national level entrance exam, held for candidates seeking admission in LLB and LLM courses offered by 18 NLU across India. It is the most competitive exam as compared to other law entrance exams.

The official website of CLAT-, will become functional shortly. But, recently an official notification was released by a leading newspaper, informing aspirants about the CLAT exam date. CLAT will be conducted by Patna University also known as CNLU (Chanakya National Law University) on May 14, 2017.

CLAT 2017 Exam Dates

Due to some technical glitch, CLAT Committee is not able to publish the CLAT notification online. The website of CLAT will become functional from December 31, 2016. Till then, interested candidates can go through the following table to know about the exam dates for CLAT:

CLAT Exam Highlights

As the exam for CLAT is scheduled on May 14, 2017. The eligible candidates should know about the exam pattern. Hence, mentioned below is a brief about the CLAT Exam for both Undergraduate as well as Postgraduate Programme.

For UG Course (LLB)

Exam Name: CLAT (Common Law Admission Test)

Conducting Body: CNLU (Chanakya National Law University, Patna)

Level of Exam: National Level

Exam Mode: Online i.e. CBT (Computer Based Test)

Medium of Exam: English

Time Duration: 2 hours (120 minutes)

No. of Questions: 200 MCQs

Marks: 200 marks

Marking Scheme: 1 mark each and 1/4th deduction for wrong answer

For PG Course (LLM)

Exam Name: CLAT (Common Law Admission Test)

Conducting Body:Chanakya National Law University, Patna

Level of Exam: National Level

Exam Mode: Online i.e. CBT (Computer Based Test)

Medium of Exam: English

Time Duration: 2 hours (120 minutes)

No. of Questions: 150 MCQs

Marks: 200 marks

Marking Scheme: 1 mark each and 1/4th deduction for wrong answer

How to fill the CLAT Application Form?

The CLAT form is available from January 01, 2017 till March 31, 2017 on the official website of CLAT. The whole application process is done through online mode. To fill the CLAT Application form, candidate must follow the steps given below:

Step 1 – CLAT 2017 Registration: 

To register for CLAT 2017 exam, candidate has to register on CLAT Application Processing System (CAPS) by entering the following details:

Candidate’s Name, Email Address and mobile number. These details cannot be changed in the later stage. After successful registration, candidate will receive an email and SMS on the registered email id and Mobile number. This email and SMS contains the CAPS Application number. Step 2 - Fill CLAT Form: 

After registration, candidates have to fill the application form, for this, login by using the CAPS Application number and Password. The candidate must fill the following information.

  • Candidate’s Personal details like (Candidates name, Date of Birth, Personal mobile number, Parent’s name, Parent’s mobile number etc.)
  • Postal Address (including PIN code) for Communication
  • Fill the CLAT 2017 Exam Cities
  • Upload Scanned image and signature
  • Upload the scanned copy of your Date of Birth (Birth certificate, 10th Class certificate, Passport or Aadhar Card)
  • Upload the scanned copy of caste certificate PWD certificate/state Domicile etc. in PDF format only (if applicable).

Step 3 - Payment of CLAT 2017 Application Fee:

After filling the CLAT Application form, candidate must pay the application fee payment. Candidate can pay the application fee through online (Debit/Credit or Net Banking) or offline (Bank Challan). Steps in the application fees process are given below:

Step 4 - Print the Application Form

After filling the CLAT Form and making the payment, candidates can download their filled application form with fee details in PDF format. Candidates can take the printout of it and save as a record for further communication. The candidate must remember the CAPS Application Number and password to login It will be used check the application status, to download the admit card and to know the results

CLAT 2017 Application Fee

  • For General/OBC and PWD category students CLAT 2017 application fee is Rs.4000/-
  • For SC/ST student application fee is Rs.3500

There are standards set by the authorities of CLAT on which the candidates can participate in this law entrance exam. It is important for the interested candidates to clear the same before filling the CLAT Application Form.

On the basis of Age

  • Candidates belonging to Unreserved category, should be below 20 years of age as on July 01, 2017.
  • Candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC/SAP/PWD categories, should be below 22 years as on July 01, 2017.

On the basis of Academic Qualification

  • For LLB, candidate should have passed 10+2 or any equivalent examination.
  • For LLM, candidate should have passed LLB or any other equivalent degree.
