NATIONAL LEVEL OFFLINE TEST
NEET, an offline exam, is organized by CBSE for admissions to various MBBS/BDS programmes. It was introduced to ease the admission process of all the medical entrance exams. The first exam for NEET was conducted in 2013 with a minimum difficulty level. But it was decided by the authorities to discontinue the exam and continue with the older process. However, it was further decided by CBSE that NEET will be conducted for MBBS/BDS courses this year.
The trend of conducting AIPMT for admissions to known medical colleges continued till 2012. It was discontinued and replaced by NEET in 2013. But the authorities discontinued NEET and AIPMT was conducted again in 2014 and 2015. After the final approvals, NEET was conducted again in 2016.
NEET is one time entrance exam for admissions to MBBS and BDS programmes. The level of difficulty varies between easy, moderate and difficult for each chapter in Biology section. There are topics from both class XI and Class XII syllabus of CBSE. The article provides you with the last year biology chapter wise weightage for NEET 2017.
Biology has an equal weightage in comparison to Physics and Biology but has major divisions. Candidates must prepare for the Biology section from the NCERT books and online NEET Question Papers. The basic concepts of the biology section must be revised and prepared correctly. The questions in this section can be asked from the in text concepts or the practical knowledge learnt during the Class XI and XII. Candidates who find it easier must invest in quick preparation strategies so that they can concentrate on weaker sections.
The NEET paper analysis of last 10 years infer that the question paper for Biology section has maximum number of questions from Principles of Inheritance and Variation (67 questions). The chapters of Molecular basis of Inheritance and Morphology of flowering plants are also included in the list of important chapters in NEET. Apart from the topics mentioned before, there are other important topics such as Animal kingdom, cell, human health and disease.

Candidates are questioned from chapters and topics studied in class XI and XII. After analyzing the weightage of questions from class XI and XII, we infer that the weightage of questions from class XI has more weightage than Class XII chapters. Thus, the preparation of topics from Class XI CBSE syllabus must be the priority of the candidates. The weightage of questions has decreased in NEET Exam from this chapter over the years. Though the number of questions decreased but the level of difficulty increased over these years. It is one of the most important topic of Class XII syllabus. There are various questions from genetic disorder (chromosomal and mendal), mutation, monohybrid and di-hybrid cross, dominance, alleles, linkage and recombination, sex determination, pedigree analysis. This is a topic from unit of genetics and evolution which includes transfer of genes from parents to child and its role in formation of various characteristics and features of the child. Candidates must have complete knowledge of the basic concepts of this chapter to score well from this section. The concepts that are to studied for scoring well in this section are DNA as a genetic material, Griffith experiment, RNA, replication, transcription and its unit, genetic coding, translation, gene expression, human genome project and DNA finger printing. It is another important topic in Biology paper of NEET from Class XI CBSE syllabus. This is a part of structural organization in plants. As per the analysis, the questions from this topic are quite easy. The number of questions vary from this topic in the last 10 years. The important topics to be studied from this section are the inflorence, the fruit, root and leaves, seed, semi-technical description and families. The analysis of 10 years infers that these chapters have similar weightage or number of questions in Biology section of NEET. As per the analysis, there are 47 questions from these chapters over the span of 10 years. Since it is a topic from zoology, the questions are of moderate difficulty. Candidates have to memorize the level of organization and animal classification from the animal kingdom chapter. The important topics from the chapter cell: unit of life are type of cell, endoplasmic reticulum, golgi apparatus, lysosome, vacuoles, mitochondria, plastids, ribosomes, cytoskeleton and nucleus. The number of questions from these chapters have also been analyzed to be same in the past 10 years. The important topics from sexual reproduction in flowering plants are stamen, microsporangium, pollen grains, T.S of anther, pollen grain tetrad, stages of microscope maturing, the pistil, mega sporangium and embryo sac, pollination, double fertilization. Endosperm, embryo, seed, apomixes and poly-embryo.
The important topics included in the human reproduction are gametogenesis, menstrual cycle, menarche, fertilization, implantation, embryonic development, parturition and lactation. All the diagrams given in the NCERT books. The questions asked are of moderate level or sometimes difficult.
