NEET 2017: Notification to be released soon

The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) is a national level medical entrance test regulated by the CBSE Board. It is held for providing admissions in MBBS/BDS courses offered by all government and private medical colleges in India. The application forms will be available on the NEET website. The exam has overtaken AIPMT for the admission to medical colleges. Candidates can find the latest news and the relevant details about NEET 2017 in this article.


Important Dates

The official notice regarding the important dates is scheduled to be released in the 2nd or 3rd week of December 2016. As the dates’ pattern remains more or less same every year, given below are the tentative dates based on previous years’ dates to give candidates a rough idea about the date pattern:

Eligibility Required

  • Nationality: Candidates should be an Indian National or OCI (Overseas Citizen of India).
  • Age Limit:
    Minimum – The minimum age limit is 17 years on 31st December of the year of admission.
    Maximum – The maximum age limit is 25 years for general candidates and 30 years for reserved categories.
  • Qualification: Students must have passed/appearing 12th or equivalent examination from any recognized board with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Bio-technology or any other elective subject with English.
  • Percentage Criteria: Students must have secured minimum 50% marks in PCB group for general candidates and 45% (for general PH) and 40% (for SC/ST/OBC categories).

Steps to follow for Registration

The registration for NEET 2017 can be done by online process only. Candidates can follow the following steps to complete their registration:

  • Go to the official NEET website
  • Follow the link that says ‘Apply Online’
  • The application form will be available around mid-December
  • Follow the instructions carefully and fill all the details carefully
  • Once the form is filled and submitted, take a printout and send the confirmation page along with the required documents (mentioned in the application form) to:

Admit Card

The admit card for NEET 2017 will be available on the official site of NEET. The admit card will be available for download after the first week of April 2017. Candidates should note that no admit card will be sent by post or by any other mode of correspondence. Candidates should take the printout of the admit card and keep it safe as no entry will be allowed to any candidate who does not have his/her admit card on the day of the exam. The admit card will contain exam and candidate related details, like exam date, exam center, name and roll number of the candidate, etc.


Latest Exam Pattern

The exam will be held in the month of May 2017. Given below is the latest exam pattern released:

  • Courses: It is held for MBBS/BDS courses.
  • Number of Questions:  The question paper will contain total 180 multiple choice questions with single correct answer.
  • Subjects: The paper will be asked from subjects as Physics, Chemistry, Zoology & Botany.
  • Language: The question paper will be available in 8 languages namely English, Hindi, Tamil, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Marathi and Telugu.
  • Mode of Exam: The exam will be conducted in offline mode (pen and paper based mode).
  • Duration: The exam duration will of 3 hours.
  • Marking Scheme: 4 marks will be awarded for each correct response.
  • Negative Marking: 1 mark will be deducted for each incorrect answer as negative marking.

NEET 2017 Updates

The application form are available on the official website of NEET. Candidates have till December 2016 to fill and submit their entries without being subject to any late fee.
