How to Get Admission in Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC), Shimla?

Indira Gandhi Medical College, Shimla Admission Eligibility Criteria

The college has an annual intake of 100 students for aspirants of graduate medical course, MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery) on the basis of NEET 2017. Candidates must fulfill the following eligibility criteria:

  • Nationality: Candidate must be an Indian Citizen or Overseas Citizen of India.
  • Age Limit: Candidate must be of minimum 17 years of age at the time of admission on or before December 31, 2017. The upper age limit for admission seekers under All India Quota is 25 years. There is a relaxation of 5 years for SC/ST/OBC candidates.
  • Essential Academic Qualification: Candidates who have passed Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology individually securing a minimum of 50% in 10+2 is eligible. For reserved category (SC/ST/OBC), there is a relaxation of 10% so they have to secure a minimum of 40% to be eligible. General physically handicapped candidates have to secure a minimum of 45%. Aspirants who are appearing in 10+2 examination in 2017 may also appear provisionally subject to their fulfilling the conditions later on.

If two or more candidates have equal score in the exam, preference will be given to

  • Candidate having higher marks in Biology/Biotechnology in NEET UG-2017.
  • Candidate having higher marks in Chemistry in NEET UG-2017.
  • Candidate older in age.

IGMC is situated in the heart of the capital city of Himachal Pradesh. Natural beauty and serenity add to the scenic beauty of this college. The college was established in the year 1966 with the name of Himachal Pradesh Medical College (HPMC). It was then renamed Indira Gandhi Medical College in 1984. The college is affiliated to Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla. The college has also been granted the status of Regional Cancer Center by the Government of India. The college provides hostel facility and a has a well-maintained library also.
