The NEET Exam was held in two phases. The second phase was primarily held to give another chance to aspirants to sit for the exam and be eligible to apply to various Participating Medical Colleges and Participating Dental Colleges for NEET 2016 after the apex court’s ruling. The Supreme Court of India on May 24, 2016, ruled that the NEET - II 2016 will be conducted by the CBSE for admission to MBBS and BDS Courses in Medical and Dental Colleges run with the approval of Medical Council of India/Dental Council of India under the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India.

SC's Verdict on NEET 2016 - Highlights

The Supreme Court’s judgement came as a shock to the Medical industry. The highlights of the ruling are:

  • Candidates who were unable to give the NEET 1 were allowed to write the NEET 2 exam. The All India Pre Medical Test was treated as NEET 1 exam.
  • Respite for candidates who think that they did not perform well in NEET 1. They will be to give NEET 2 only if they forfeit their candidature for NEET 1.

A petition was filed on August 3, 2016 in the Supreme Court looking for a re-examination of the test because of an alleged paper leak. This leak was reported on July 24, 2016. However, the CBSE has rejected such allegations. It stated that the test was held without any irregularities and all the allegations are false.

The NEET-I was conducted on May 1, 2016 and NEET-II on July 24, 2016.

The candidates who had given the NEET exam in the first phase were demanding for the Answer Keys of NEET-I to be released before the NEET-II is conducted. However, the CBSE confirmed that no such demand will be met. It declared that the Answer Key for both the phases would be published on a single day, on its official website.

There was a delay in the release of answer keys as CBSE, in an earlier notification, announced that the NEET 2016 Official Answer Key will be published on August 7, 2016. However, the answer key was then released on August 8, 2016.
