MICAT 2016 Paper Analysis

A paper analysis usually involves an in-depth examination of the question paper and determining the number of sections, questions per sections, difficulty level and other related aspects of the examination. It helps the students to comprehend the examination properly and prepare for the next sessions.

MICAT 2016 Paper Analysis can be helpful in figuring out how many questions are asked from a certain topic and hence, which topics are given the most weightage.

Candidates aspiring to appear for MICAT exam next year should go through the detailed analysis of the previous year question papers. This will help them understand the MICAT 2016 exam pattern and guide them with their preparations.

In accordance with the MICAT 2016 exam pattern, the test was conducted in online mode. There were two papers – Paper 1 had four descriptive questions while Paper 2 featured 90 MCQ questions. So, a total of 94 questions were asked in MICAT 2016exam.

To solve the entire question paper – both Paper 1 and Paper 2, the candidates were given time duration of 2 hours and 45 minutes. For Paper 1, the candidates had 35 minutes and the remaining 130 minutes were allotted to Paper 2. The language of the question paper was English.

There was no negative marking in Paper 1. Paper 2 consisted of three parts, out of which Part 1 had no negative marking but Part II and Part III had a penalty of 25% for wrong answers.

The overall difficulty level of MICAT 2016 can be described as “moderate”. There were two papers in the exam. The duration of the test was 165 minutes and the questions were asked in English.

MICAT Paper Analysis Paper 1

Paper 1 was the descriptive part of the MICAT exam. A total of four questions were asked and candidates were allotted 35 minutes to answer them.

Essay writing, argument writing, and creative writing were some areas that candidates were assessed in. The topic given for Essay and Argument Writing was ‘Environment is more important than development

The word limit for the essay was fixed at 200 words. The candidates were given the option to write either in favour or against the topic. However, the test takers were not at the liberty to write from a neutral standpoint. It was clearly stated in the question that no marks would be allotted if a neutral answer was submitted.

For the section of argument writing, the candidate had to provide 5 arguments each in favour of and against the given statement. There was also a question to test the Creative Writing skills of the candidate. For this problem, 4 pictures were provided and a story has to be written based on the pictures. Candidates had a word limit of 300 for this question.

MICAT Paper Analysis Paper 2

This paper had objective type, multiple-choice questions. Paper 2 was divided into five sections, all pertaining to different subjects. Candidates were given 130 minutes for this paper and there were no sectional time limits. This means that test takers could navigate between the sections throughout the 130 minutes.

MICAT Paper Analysis Psychometric Test 

This was one of the five sections that constituted Paper 2. It was a compulsory section with no negative marking. A total of 30 statements were given in this section. Candidates had to select 10 questions which they found to best describe their individual personality. These statements did not have to be ranked in any order.

A second set of questions were also asked where arguments were provided. Again, the candidate had to choose one statement which suited his personality. In the third and final set of questions, candidates were told to rank the statements on a scale of 1 to 6. A ranking of 1 would imply the highest priority and 6 would imply the least priority. 

MICAT Paper Analysis Reasoning 

There were 30 questions in this section of Paper 2. Some were of moderate difficulty while others were on the tougher side. A fair number of questions were asked from combination of words and visual reasoning. A negative marking of 25% for incorrect answers was applicable in this section.

MICAT Paper Analysis General Knowledge

There were 25 questions in this section ranging from moderate to slightly tougher. A mix of static GK and current affairs was seen in the questions. A penalty of 25% for wrong answers was applicable in this section as well. The detailed breakdown is provided below.

MICAT Paper Analysis Verbal Ability 

25 questions were asked from this section too. The topic of Reading Comprehension saw only one passage with 5 related questions. Vocabulary and grammar were also tested. A negative marking of 25% for all incorrect answers was found to be applicable in this section.
