There will be a 10% increase in JEE Advanced 2017 Seat Allotment to accommodate foreign students.  Though Indian students need not worry about their seat reduction possibility as there will be no reduction in the seats already available to Indian students at 18 IITs. To facilitate foreign candidates, the outreach program has already been started for the academic session of year 2017.

JEE Main 2016 Seat Allotment

The Impact:

  1. MEA (Ministry of External affairs) will consider giving research visa to foreign candidates for the whole duration of the entire program, instead of one year.
  2. As India is considered a country with diversity, good number of foreign candidates will ensure diversity in the classroom and national and international student will get an opportunity to know their culture better.
  3. With the large number of foreign students, there will be less chances of racism as the earlier cause of racism was the drop in number of foreign students.  By conducting JEE Advanced in abroad countries, it will surely encourage large number of foreign participation.
  4. The outreach program, which will begin in August, will sensitize foreign students. It will be conducted in eight countries and IIT Mumbai has been asked to prepare the essential outreach material.
  5. Fee for the foreign nations will be more as compared to subsidized fee which Indians students pay for admission.

However, the whole purpose of this is too attract more foreign students studying at IITs as it will help in boosting IIT’s international academic rankings. Also, this will provide an opportunity to the eligible foreign students to study in IIT’s in order to be aware of the advantages of studying in India’s top most institution.
