NATIONAL LEVEL OFFLINE TEST
As the Top 2,00,000 candidates who cracked JEE Main 2016 to qualify for JEE Advanced 2016 gear up for the final hurdle between them and their dream engineering colleges, Indian Institute of Technology administration announced few changes before the conduct of the examination on May 22, 2016.

As for the exam related news, a total of 16 new exam centers for conduct of JEE Advanced 2016 have been introduced. This is to take care of the travel difficulties of the increasing number of students qualifying for JEE Advanced from the remote locations of the country. The 16 new test centers will limit the difficult commute from home city to the exam city, and thus, will help candidate prepare for the exam without wasting time on long travels between cities.
In other big changes, changes as such less related to the JEE Advanced Exam Pattern as they are to what follows after. The year will see an increase in the number of seats offered for admission. This is owning to the opening of new IITs at Chhattisgarh, Goa, Jammu and Karnataka. This, however, will affect the JEE Advanced 2016 cut off which is expected to fall this year. This fall is predicted on the basis of an increase in number of seats.

Not only this, female candidates will now be eligible to be admitted into Mining Engineering and Mining Machinery related courses at ISM Dhanbad. Earlier, due to the Mine Act, no woman could be employed in any part of a mine below the ground and between 6:00 am to 9:00 am in the mine above the ground. This restriction has also been removed at IIT Kharagpur as well as IIT (BHU).
This is a big change which will see an influx of number of female candidates into courses which had long faced gender restriction. This is a step closer to increase in number of female engineers in the country along the lines of gender equality.

In other related news, Person of Indian Origin (PIO) and Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) cardholders will appear for JEE Advanced 2016 under general category. These candidates are eligible for open seats. The certificates related to their status are to be uploaded during registration for the exam.
