NATIONAL LEVEL ONLINE TEST

SNAP 2017 Previous Years trend Analysis

Last Updated - September 13, 2017

SNAP 2017 is scheduled on December 17, 2017 for admission into MBA programme in 14 Symbiosis B-Schools. Exam is completely objective type and held in offline mode. Those who have appeared for it earlier are well aware of the fact that it does not let you take question paper with you at the end of written test. Its biggest drawback is that you cannot analyze previous year question papers and make out the general trend which SNAP follows.

Below is the pictorial representation of the number of questions in each section and time that should be allotted to each (in minutes).

SNAP Previous year trends

This article gives you analysis of last year papers and helps you in deciding your preparation strategy. If you are aspiring for MBA, then apart from SNAP, you must be appearing for other tests like CAT, XAT, IIFT, so you should be aware of the fact that it is comparatively easier than these exams.

In SNAP, one thing you need to maintain is your speed along with accuracy because you would be solving 150 questions in just two hours. Another difference is the General Awareness Section which  makes it little bit tough to score as it ask you questions from plethora of wit, fields and judge your knowledge about national and international affairs.

Though you have more than 1 minute for each question but it does not mean you are actually going to follow it –major sections consuming much time are Quantitative Aptitude and Logical Reasoning. Each section will cover around 35 minutes. Spending more than that can result in wastage of time and decrease your expected score.

SNAP Exam Pattern 2

Recent trends have shown that the maximum number of questions that can be attempted in Quantitative Aptitude is more than 30. Same goes for English section. Maximum you can attempt in Logical reasoning should be between 22 and 25. For General awareness, number of question you should attempt can range between 20 and 25.

Well, it should be kept in mind that it strictly depends on the difficulty level of exam and your preparation level. There is no scope of guess work in any of the sections.

The race for SNAP has already begin, students have been preparing since long for it, but what matters is how much smartly you have worked. No matter how many times you have revised all the topics, what’s important is how much diverse topics have you done. Foremost thing is to know about what type of questions from very topic- which ones are easy to score or questions from which sub topics are difficult.

SNAP Previous year trends 1

Below are the paper analysis of last four years:-

SNAP 2014 Paper Analysis

If we talk about SNAP 2014, then it was on a bit higher level as compared to previous years in terms of difficulty. Apart from difficulty, ambiguity was another problem faced by students in exam. There was no change in structure of test. Now we will look into individual sections.

  • Logical reasoning- Almost all the topics like Venn diagrams, charts, coding-decoding, clocks, syllogisms etc were covered. Five questions were from circular arrangements and complex arrangements each. Four questions were from Venn diagram. Unexpectedly, critical reasoning questions were found to be easy. Around 22-23 questions could be attempted and that too within 30-35 minutes.
  • Quantitative Aptitude- This section was quite difficult like question son logarithms, trigonometry, clock, successive discounts etc. Few questions were also found to be wrong too. 35 questions are from QA and remaining from DI. Most of the questions in QA i.e. around 22 were from Arithmetic and Algebra.
  • General English- There was quite a change in this section from last year as the number of questions on vocabulary were reduced. It was 9 unlike 15 last year. Most of the questions were fill in the blanks (18 ques) in this year. These questions were quite tricky too. Sections was found to be quite dubious by students where all the options seemed to be quite close to each other.
  • General Awareness- Most difficult section of SNAP 2014 as no scope of guesswork, rather than current affairs, almost 90% questions were from general aptitude in fields like history, geography, literature, technology etc.

SNAP 2013 Paper Analysis

It was more on the same line like last year. General Awareness as every year was a trouble maker for students. Let’s look into each section.

  • Logical Reasoning- No critical reasoning question this time. Section was quite average in difficulty. If someone had good hold on the topics can easily solve around 25 questions. What it required was optimum speed and order of attempting the paper.
  • Quantitative Aptitude- Quite an easy section (geometry, mensuration, ratios, surds, permutation and combination etc). Around 18-20 questions were quite simple if you have done much practice.
  • General English- Vocabulary was predominant topic in this section. Reading comprehensions were quite moderate. Around 35 questions could be attempted easily.
  • General Awareness- most of the questions were from Banking and finance. Section was neither too difficult nor easy. Questions on present affairs were given a miss.

SNAP 2012 Paper Analysis

Extremely difficult paper after 2010. Sections which make it so were Logical reasoning and General awareness. From 2012 onwards, question papers were taken back from students due to which they were not able to calculate their score.

  • Logical Reasoning- As mentioned above, section was not easy to attempt especially the questions on circular arrangements, analogy, coded mathematical operations
  • Quantitative Aptitude- Like every year, questions from arithmetic accounted much of this section. There were only three questions from geometry. Though there was only one question but could easily fetch you two marks. There were not so complex problems in QA section which made it easy to score.
  • General English- there were 10 questions on Synonyms and Antonyms. There was only one reading comprehension comprising five questions. Difficulty level was average.
  • General Awareness- Comparatively difficult section- mostly questions were about current national and international affairs.

SNAP 2011 Paper Analysis

Those who have appeared for this, must be knowing, SNAP 2011 was much talked about due to so many errors in paper. Data was also missing in few questions. Ambiguous options were there. It was also said that it entailed questions which were also present on website of coaching centers.

  • Logical Reasoning- Most difficult section of the exam. There were 9 questions from critical reasoning and none was easy. It is also said that around 12 questions were easy and less time consuming. Thus, those who have tried to attempt 21-22 questions were good scorer.
  • Quantitative Aptitude- Data was either incorrect or incomplete in few questions. Many questions were from time and work, time, speed and distance. There were 9 questions from Data Interpretation
  •  General English- Questions on Analogy were quite difficult. Cloze test was easy and so were the synonyms and antonyms. Jumbled paragraphs were moderately difficult. Spot the error questions were not at all easy and should be attempted at last. Overall, 24-25 questions were nice attempt.
  • General Awareness- By far, quite a difficult topic. Such a diverse range of questions were asked from economics to politics, from finance to history. Mostly were about domestic affairs. One who had been following latest updates and sincerely read newspapers could attempt it. No guesswork could be done.

By now, candidates must get an idea what areas to focus on, the most prominent topics which are prevalent in exam. This way, they will be able to plan their preparation strategy. It would be advised to check the cut off of last few years of Symbiosis B-schools to form an idea about what should be the score you aim at.
