XAT 2016 QA & DI Preparation Tips

Last Updated - April 06, 2017

Quantitative Ability and Data Interpretation is the most important section in XAT. In this article we will provide you the pattern and analysis of XAT Quant section, which is considered tougher than other sections. In quant section, those 30-36 questions cover almost all the areas of mathematics.

Since 2013 XAT has followed almost the same pattern expect change in no of questions and sections. XAT 2016 is expected to be in the same pattern also. As usual it will be divided into two parts. The first part consists of Quantitative Aptitude & DI, Verbal Ability & Logical Reasoning and Decision Making.

Paper 1Verbal Ability28
Decision Making & Analytical Reasoning23
Quantitative Ability & Data Interpretation33
Paper 2General Knowledge30

The basic motive of this section is to test the numerical/mathematical ability of the students. The quantitative techniques are judged through mathematical conceptual questions. It is wide concept, which can be excelled in, only after persistent practice. Clarity of concepts, formulas is required to score well. Spending enough time on preparation is a must.

Tips to score well in Quant section:

• Clarity of concepts: The most pivotal part is know the basic concepts, tricks and fundamentals, to have a strong base.
• Learn short cuts: Due to time constraints, learning short cuts benefits a lot to aspirants.
• Understand then memorize: Do not indulge in cramming without understanding. First understand the formulas and then memorize by writing and practicing continuously
• Avoid negative marking: These competitive exams have strict negative marking rules, avoid attempting the question if you are not sure of the answer.
• Manage time well: Time management is the key to success when it comes time restricted examination.
• Practice mock papers: Solve multiple mock papers, sample papers to be skilled enough to attempt the exam well.

An example of sample question is presented below:

XAT Preparation for Data Interpretation

Data Interpretation is one of those sections of competitive exams that require observation skills. In data representation, questions are asked in form of charts, table, graphs etc. Interpretation of these figures and seeking solution is the key task. Sufficient practice can make this section easier in terms of scoring. The strategy to score well is to spend more time while practicing and less during the exam to crack the trick.  The illustrations can be in any form graphs, pie-chart, line graphs, combination graphs etc.

Sample Questions are as follows:

Example 2

Tips to solve Data-Interpretation questions:

• Improve your calculations: Having good practice can yield great results if you are skilled in calculations.
• Solve different type of graphs: The illustrations are usually tricky and complex, solve all possible type of graphs and charts available.
• Speed-up: Speed can do wonders, the time limitation must be worked out by being quick on calculations and interpretation.
