NATIONAL LEVEL ONLINE/OFFLINE TEST
Vikrant Sharma, a JEE Main scholar. An ardent fan of movies, scored 300 marks in the exam. He appeared in 2011 and managed to secure a seat in University College of Engineering, Rajasthan Technical University. A decent study for 4-5 hours a day helped him to achieve this feat.
We had an interview with him where he discussed his success mantra for the students appearing in JEE Main 2017. Below is the questionnaire:
Q 1. What did you choose - Offline or Online mode for taking up the exam?
There was only single mode for answering JEE Main- offline.
Q 2. Did you take Coaching Classes? If yes, how did they help in your story?
Yes, I took Bansal Coaching Classes and Vibrant Coaching Classes and it had put a great advantage on my level of understanding in core subjects. I did self-studies along with the coaching studies.
Q 3. How did you manage JEE Main Preparation along with your Class 12th exam?
I did not do anything special for my board (CBSE) preparation but I did smart studies. I had completed my whole syllabus of class 12 between March to August and then I started focusing on IIT from August to January.
Q 4. What were your Strong and Weak areas? How did you prepare and what special efforts did you put for improving them?
My strongest area was Mathematics (Conic section & Calculus) and weakest one was Chemistry (Inorganic-POC). I revised the notes and practiced hard or the exam.
Q 5. What mock papers did you take?
I used Arihant Mock papers for both JEE Main.
Q 6. Write some of the Preparation tips for someone who is starting 4 months before the exam?
For you, the time is very less but it’s not impossible to crack what you can do is just make the notes of only important areas of all the subjects (PCM) from class 11th and 12th. Such as in Mathematics- Conic Section, Lines, Triangles, Calculus, Probability, Matrices and Determinants, in Physics- Magnetic Field and Electric Field, Optics, Sounds ,Electricity and a lot more, and in Chemistry- do solve Physical Chemistry problems on Electro-chemistry, focus on Solutions, Coordination Chemistry, Chemical Bonding, and the rest, you can google it.
Make the study plan and do thorough study from NCERT Books specially Chemistry and solve last 10 years of entrance exams’ question papers as it plays a very important role in the preparation time.
Q 7. Physics: Mention the Strategy and Books Followed for this section.
My Physics was not that bad and I just prepared from the books: Concepts of Physics Vol I and II by H.C. Verma, Problems in General Physics by I.E. Irodov.
Q 8. Chemistry: Mention the Strategy and Books Followed for this section.
You don't need to do much in it just practice thoroughly. I made a proper time table for studies and followed my school notes. I followed the following books: Physical Chemistry by O.P. Tandon, Organic Chemistry by Paula Bruice Yurkanis, Chemistry XI & XII by NCERT.
Q 9. Mathematics: Mention the Strategy and Books Followed for this section.
There is no need to worry much but a thorough practice of numerical is must. There are books that can help you out in preparing better for the exam- S.L Loney, Problems in Calculus of One Variable by I.A. Maron and DPPs are sufficient.
Q 10. What are the things you would like to go back in time and change to get into a better college?
Well, there is nothing that I want to change.
