JEE Main 2017: Engineering Aspirants Now Need 75% marks in Higher Secondary

For JEE MAIN 2017 aspirant to clear the eligibility criteria,he /she needs to score 75% marks in higher secondary examination or the rank scored among top 20 in the respective board exams.The eligibility scores in higher secondary examination,till 2016, was limited to candidate’s 50% marks in total with PCM (Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics) as main subjects.

Class 12th scores will only be an important barometer for determining the eligibility for JEE Main 2017.The present system dealt with allotting 40% weightage of class 12th marks for deciding ranks in JEE Main entrance exam.

Talking in regard to Schedule Caste and Schedule tribes 10% relaxation is being given to them.For SC/ST,to qualify for JEE MAIN 2017,a candidate should acquire 65% marks in 12th class.

Effect on Candidate

According to the sources if the candidate fails to meet the required cut-off i.e. 75% for General candidates and 65% for SC/ST candidates in Higher Secondary exam,then his/her rank will be of no use in entrance and the same will be nullified.

The basic eligibility criteria for appearing in JEE Main is you should be class 12th pass or equivalent with45%marks in each of the subject (40% in case of reserved categories).

JEE MAIN 2017 Counselling

Candidate can attend JEE Main 2017 counselling,online as the counselling procedure is entirely online.The process will start after the declaration of JEE Advanced results. JEE MAIN 2017 Counselling will take place under two categories,as mentioned following:

  1. Joint Seat Allocation Authority- This authority handles the counselling process for IITs, ISM, NITs and other Government funded institutes.
  2. Central Seat Allocation Board- This board handles the procedure of counselling for North Eastern States & Union Territories and Self-Funded Technical Institutes.

JEE MAIN 2017 Seat Allocation

Following the result of ALL INDIA RANK in JEE MAIN 2017,seats will be allocated to the candidate.An aspirant can refer to following steps while filling the choice for JEE MAIN Seat Allotment. Usually,there are four steps to follow and the same are mentioned below:

  1. Registering Online:Qualified aspirants will require to register themselves for seat allotment in IITs and NITs,online.Candidate will be required to enter essential personal details like Name of the candidate, Email Id, Postal Address etc
  2. Choice Filling:After completing the process of registration,candidate will be required to fill their choices of institutions and branches in decreasing order of the preference.
  3. Choice Locking:After the candidate has filled the choice,candidate must “Lock” his/her choices. In case,candidate does not lock the choices then the candidate’s last saved choices will be locked automatically. Eventually,Candidate will have to unlock their choices in the 4th round of counselling but for doing this he/she has to surrender his previous allotted seat.
  4. Report to Allotted Institute:When you complete above three steps,candidate must report to the allotted institute before the given deadline.At the time of reporting, candidates must click on the option ‘freeze’, ‘slide’ or ‘float’ to select the choice of academic program.
