JEE Main 2016 - International applicants

Foreign nationals who wish to take admission in under graduate programmes (B.Tech/Dual Degree) in various IITs need to appear in JEE Main 2017 Paper I to be conducted on April 2, 2017 (pen and paper based) and on April 8-9, 2017 (online mode). They will have to fill the online JEE Main Application Form on or before January 02, 2017by visiting the official website.

Foreign nationals (Foreign nation passport holder or have either PIO (Person of Indian Origin) or OCI (Overseas Citizen of India) card) fulfilling the eligibility criteria must submit the application form before the last date of submission.

Application fee, if Exam Center is outside India, is Rs, 2500 (for boys) and Rs. 1250 (for girls) if they opt for either Paper I or Paper II. Candidates opting for both papers will have to pay Rs, 3800 (for boys) and Rs. 1900 (for girls). Candidates may download their JEE Main Admit Card realeaed on March 1, 2017.

The seat allotted to the foreign national will be supernumerary in nature with a cap of 10% of total number of seats in every course. The number of supernumerary seats for foreign nationals will be declared later at the time of online seat allocation.

Note:- Foreign candidates will not be eligible for admission to NITs, CFTIs and IIITs on the basis of rank scored in JEE Main 2017. Qualifying JEE Main will however make them eligible for JEE Advanced 2017so that they can get into IITs provided they secure a good rank in JEE Advanced. To get into NITs, CFTIs and IIITs, candidate has to apply through Direct Admission of Student Abroad or DASA 2017.


JEE Main 2016 Application Process

The application process of begins from December 1, 2016 and ends on January 02, 2017. JEE Mains Application Form can be filled through online mode only. Candidates can only fill one application form and multiple application form from candidate will be rejected. Online application process involves submission of particulars, uploading photograph, signature and thumb expression.

Before starting filling JEE Main application form, candidates must make sure that they have scanned images of photograph, signature and left thumb impression ready. Candidates should follow the following steps to fill JEE Main Application Form.

Step 1: Fill the Application Form

Click on Apply for JEE (Main)-2017 to proceed further. The candidate will be directed to the page where he/she has to Fill the Application Form. While filling the Application Form, candidate has to provide the following details

  • Board Examination Details
  • Examination Details JEE (Mains) – 2017
  • Personal Details
  • Academic Details
  • Contact Details
  • Parent’s/Guardian’s Details  
  • The field “Select the State, your School/ College/NIOS Study Centre located from where class 12th /Qualifying Examination passed/appearing” is not to be filled by candidates of Nepal/Bhutan/PIO/OCI/Foreign Nationals
  • The field ”Select State mentioned on your passport” is to be filled only if the candidate has passed class 12th from outside India and does not belongs to Nepal/Bhutan/Foreign/OCI/PIO – The State of Eligibility for Indian Nationals passing the equivalent examination from an institution abroad will be determined on the basis of the permanent address in India as given in their passport.
  • Select Other against the field “Board Name” if the candidate belongs to Nepal/Bhutan/PIO/OCI/Foreign Nationals
  • In “Nationality” column,mark OCI/PIO/Foreign-other than PIO, OCI.  

After this the candidate will have to choose the password and security questions. After filling JEE Mains 2016 Application Form, an Application Number will be generated. Candidates are required to note the application number as it will be required for booking seat slot (if computer based online test is chosen), downloading Admit card, JEE Main 2017 Score Card and JEE Main Counselling.

In case a candidate forgets his/her password or application number, he/she can still recover it by answering security question or the verification code received on the registered E-mail ID and have to fill the name, father’s name, mother’s name and state of eligibility.

Step 2: Upload Scanned Images

After this the candidate has to upload the following scanned images:

  • Photograph
  • Signature

Left thumb Impression (Right thumb impression in case the left thumb is not there or any of the finger if both the thumbs are not there)

The images to be uploaded should adhere to the following instructions

Dimensions

  • Photograph should be of 3.5cm X 4.5cm
  • Signature and left thumb impression should be of 3.5cm X 1.5cm

  • Photograph: 4KB to 40KB
  • Signature and thumb Impression: 1KB to 30KB

Note

Make sure that the details filled in the application form are correct. After the fee payment, no changes will be made in the form

Step 3: Payment of Application Fee

Candidates have option to choose their examination either in India or outside India. The application fee for the exam centre outside India will be different form exam center in India

The application fee can be paid through the following modes only

Online Mode

Using Debit/ Credit Card or Net Banking + additional processing charges which are as followed

  • Credit Card: 1.20% of the examination fee plus the service tax as applicable
  • Debit Card: 0.75% + taxes for examination fee up to Rs.2000 and 1% + taxes for examination fee more than Rs.2000

Offline Mode

​Through E-Challan, the application fee may be paid. Visit any branch of Syndicate /ICICI/Canara/HDFC bank and pay the application fee in cash.

Application fee once paid is non-refundable. Fee paid through any other mode will not be accepted

Once the fee payment status is OK, candidate can take the printout of Acknowledgement page. In case the fee payment status is not OK, candidate should do as follow.

  • If the fee is paid through e-challan be depositing cash, the candidate should contact immediately the bank to update his/her fee status on the website
  • If the fee is paid through credit/debit card and status is not OK, it means the transaction is cancelled and the amount will, automatically, be refunded to concerned credit/debit card within 7 – 10 days. Therefore, such candidates have to pay the fee once again.

JEE Main 2016 Slot Selection

After the fee is paid for JEE Main 2017, the candidate has to choose the exam slot. In case e candidate is unable to choose the online slot, the seat will be allotted by the exam conducting authority based on the availability of seat.


Benefits of Appearing in JEE Main 2016

Foreign nationals appearing in JEE Mains on qualifying it will be eligible for JEE Advanced 2017. So they stand a chance to get into the prestigious IITs as on qualifying both JEE Mains and Advanced, they will be placed in the rank list, on the basis of which the candidate will be given admission into IITs.


JEE Main 2016 Eligibility Criteria

Foreign nationals planning to appear in JEE Main 2017 have to fulfill the following eligibility criteria before filling the Application form.

  • Born on or after October 1,1991
  • Should have passed qualifying exam in 2014 or 2015. Candidates appearing in qualifying exam in 2017 are also eligible. But candidates who passed their exam in 2013 or before or will be passing in 2017 are not eligible
  • Candidates seeking admission in B.Tech/BE course should have secured at least 50% in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (PCM). Should have passed 5 subjects
  • Candidates seeking admission in B.Arch course should secure at least 50% aggregate in 5 subjects with Mathematics as a subject.

Note:-

  • Paper II (B.Arch/ B.Planning) will be conducted on April 3, 2016 from 2 PM to 5PM (IST) in Pen and Paper mode only, also in Colombo,Kathmandu and Singapore
  • Foreign Nationals can also choose Exam Center within India also if they are appearing/passed class 12 from an institute in India

Documents required by Foreign Nationals

  • Valid Foreign passport
  • Student VISA For under graduate programme. In case of students from the restricted countries, the student / the respective Embassy should forward, before joining the Institute, the clearance and No Objection Certificate from the Ministry of Human Resource Development,Department of Secondary & Higher Education to the Academic Section of IIT Madras (without the NOC and Ministry clearance, admission will not be confirmed).
  • Valid residential permit in India granted for studies or a Student Visa for the prescribed duration of the concerned programme
  • The Degrees/Certificates of the candidates must have been recognized and approved by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) / Commonwealth Universities / International Association of Universities (IAU) as equivalent to the corresponding Indian Degrees/ Certificates
