National Law university, NLU- AILET 2017 Syllabus

The AILET Syllabus 2017 is separate for all the courses- BA LLB, LLM. and Ph. D. The candidates have to prepare for the National Law University (NLU) entrance exam following the prescribed AILET Syllabus. AILET is a pen and paper based test. AILET 2017 is scheduled on May 7, 2017

For B.A., LL.B. (Hons.) course, AILET Syllabus covers topics from English, General Knowledge (Current Affairs, History, Economics, and Civics), Legal Aptitude, Reasoning, Geography, General Science and Elementary Mathematics (Numerical Ability).

For LL.M. program, AILET Syllabus 2017 consists of the following topics- Law of Contracts, Law of Torts, Criminal Law, Constitutional Law, and Legal Theory.

AILET 2017 Syllabus for BA LLB course covers the following main sections- English, General Knowledge, Legal Aptitude, Reasoning and Elementary Mathematics.

The candidates have to attempt 35 questions in each of the first four sections and 10 question in the last section.

The AILET Question paper mainly assesses the candidates’ awareness on current affairs and general knowledge on topics such as-Geography, History, Current Affairs related to Government Policies and Economics. Reading daily newspapers and current affair books will aid the candidates in attempting this section of AILET 2017.

AILET Exam Pattern

AILET 2017 Exam Pattern for BA LLB

  • Time duration - 1 hour and 30 minutes.
  • Sections- English, General Knowledge, Legal Aptitude, Reasoning and Elementary Mathematics.
  • Total 150 questions- 35 questions in each of the first four sections and 10 question in the last section
  • Marking scheme- One mark for each question. Negative marking od 0.25 is applicable for each incorrect entry and multiple answer entry.

AILET 2017 Exam Pattern for LLM

  • Time duration- 90 minutes.
  • 2 Sections- 100 Objective questions and one Essay question.
  • Total marks -150, 100 marks for the objective section and 50 marks for the essay section.

AILET 2017 Exam Pattern for Ph.D. Programmes

  • Time duration- 1 hour 30 minutes.
  • Two Papers- Paper 1 (Research Methodology) and paper 2(Research Proposal Specific Paper).
  • The paper 1 contains 100 multiple choice questions. In paper 2, the candidates have to submit a research proposal in 15 pages on the topic of their Ph.D. degree. 


AILET Admit Card

The AILET Admit Card will be issued by the University in the third week of April 2017. Candidates can download the consent card through the official website of the university. The AILET Admit Card will contain the examination specifications like candidate name & roll number, exam date, exam center & timing, etc.


Important Dates for the AILET Exam 2017

  •  AILET 2017 Application Form will begin on 1st January 2017
  • The last date to apply for the AILET Exam 2017 is in the first week of April 2017
  • AILET Admit card for 2017 will be issued in the third week of April 2017
  • AILET Exam 2017 will be conducted on May 7, 2017
  • The AILET Result will be out on May 18, 2017.
