Ques. Did you take coaching classes? Mention their role in your Story.

Ans. I took coaching classes for IIT JEE and if you prepare well for JEE exam, you will face no problems in BITSAT. I took individual tutors for my preparations. Also the fact that batch size was small in these classes, they helped me to get individual attention of teachers. I was fortunate to have had a strong foundation in Maths so it was slightly easier for me. But I can say that Maths is very essential for cracking this exam.

Ques. How would you rate the following Preparation Strategy in terms of their efficiency in your story?

Ques. What were your Strong and Weak areas? How did you prepare and what special efforts did you put for improving them?

Ans. Mathematics was clearly my strong area and chemistry was my weak area. I made sure not to get complacent in Mathematics and regularly practiced it. At the same time, Chemistry was a big weakness and despite taking coaching classes I kept struggling in it. Due to the huge syllabus, Chemistry is never easy. I worked very hard and used to put a lot of my study time in Chemistry itself. You need to make sure you have good command over subject matter in NCERT at least and then you can look for other books in Chemistry

Ques. What mock papers did you take?

Ans. I took FITJEE mocks. They also provided mocks for IIT JEE and BITSAT mocks was included in that package along with AIEEE mocks in those days. Mocks are a very important part of preparing for any exam as you get to know your level in the country on regular basis.

Ques. Write some of the Preparation tips for someone who is starting 3 months before the exam?

Ans. 3 months before exams I would suggest you to finish your syllabus as soon as possible and make sure you take as many mocks as possible. While taking mocks you would realize your weak areas and work on them. After that again revisit mocks and try to practice from there. Eventually you would succeed in gaining command over those topics.
But please make sure you finish this cycle at least 10 days before exam. In the last 10 days, just look at basic concepts, formula and previous year papers of exam and if possible relax your mins.

Ques. Physics: Mention the Strategy and Book Followed

Ans. I used to follow 3 books
1. NCERT
2. HC Verma
3. GC Aggarwal
NCERT was pretty much covered in school and HC Verma is a kind of universal book which you have to solve anyways. Coming to GC Agarwal, even if you solve the examples by yourself it would suffice as the number of questions are huge and all of them are extremely lengthy and difficult. In Physics always concentrate on concepts. This is one subject where you can score heavily if and only if you are good in concepts. Hard work or smartness would not matter unless you know the basics. So, please make sure you have a good teacher and try to learn physics practically for better understanding.

Ques. Chemistry: Mention the Strategy and Books Followed

Ans. I followed NCERT, Pradeep, Morrison Boyd and Arihant book for chemistry. It is extremely vast and is indeed divided into physical, inorganic and organic chemistry. Please make sure you have good command over at least 2 of these 3 divisions of chemistry only then you stand a chance at cracking competitive exams. I chose Physical and organic chemistry as my strength since inorganic had a lot of mugging up to do. But it really depends on you. Also try to understand organic chemistry and how reactions takes place. Every reaction and catalyst used has a logic. Physical chemistry you would find much like numerical and should not give you much of problems. What I did for inorganic was that I just mugged up NCERT and that would suffice if you know your physical and organic chemistry.

Ques. English: Steps to master this section and the books you followed.

Ans. For English you would get very basic questions. If you are a student of good English speaking schools like D.P.S., convent schools, ICSE board etc. you would not require a lot of preparations. For others, first take mocks in English section and see where you stand. Based on that find your weakness and work on that. Basic grammar and vocabulary would be suffice for this. Wren and Martin would be a good basic book for English but sample papers are the best source of practice.

Ques. Logical Reasoning: Strategy and Books you Followed.

Ans. Logical reasoning is a bit tricky and I would suggest a good amount of practice for it. Previous year papers, mock papers, other competitive exam papers which have those 3D image pattern type questions are important source of preparations. Apart from it just practice since there is no syllabus for this sections. You have to be smart and quick in thinking.

Ques. Mathematics: Strategy and Books Followed.

Ans. For mathematics I followed ML Khanna, NCERT, Arihant, Rahee's book for calculus etc. This is one subject where as much practice is required as you can. Try to solve as many books as possible. This will make sure you have solved almost all types of problem and even if you get a new question in exam, it is just one of the permutation combination of questions you have earlier solved. Concentrate on method and concept of problems rather than solution. Also try to maintain a good accuracy and not just speed as it is very easy to do mistake in Maths.

Ques. What are the things you would like to go back in time and change to get into a better college?

Ans. I would like to work on my accuracy. I was fast and I practiced a lot to increase my speed but my accuracy always suffered. After all these exams now I realize accuracy is far more important than speed. Hence I would suggest all of you to be accurate.
