NMAT 2018 Exam Pattern

GMAC (Graduate Management Admission Council) will release the notification and exam pattern forNMAT 2018 on its official website The information brochure along with NMAT 2018 Exam Pattern will be released in the month of July 2018.

NMAT by GMAC will comprise of multiple choice questions (MCQs) i.e. objective type questions. NMAT 2018 is a computer based test i.e. mode of exam is online.

  • Each question will have 5 alternative options out of which one that seems the most appropriate choice, must be selected.
  • The medium of language will be English only.
  • The duration of exam is 2 hours (120 minutes). However, students will be given an additional time of 20 minutes before the exam to complete essential formalities.
  • Total number of questions asked in the entrance exam will be 120.
  • The question paper will be divided into 3 sections- Language Skills, Quantitative Skills and Logical Skills.
  • Every correct answer will be awarded +3 mark and negative marking is not applicable. The maximum marks a candidate can score is 120.

NMAT 2018 is a national level entrance exam. The standard of the entrance test will be that of Higher Secondary (10+2 or equivalent exam).

NMIMS Management Aptitude Test (NMAT) is conducted by GMAC for admission into the first year of various PG Management courses in NMIMS and various participating institutes across India for the academic year 2018-2019.

NMAT 2018 Exam Pattern in Detail

NMAT 2018 will be a computer based test (CBT). The question paper will be available in English only. It will comprise of 120 objective questions to be solved within 120 minutes.

The question paper will be segregated into 3 sections- Language Skills, Quantitative Skills and Logical Skills. Each section will have to be solved within a stipulated period of time. The students can proceed to the next section if they finish a section beforehand but the remaining time cannot be used for other sections. Aspirants can choose the order of attempting the sections at the beginning of the exam. The maximum marks a candidate can score in NMAT 2018 are 120. Aspirants must choose the most appropriate answer out of 5 alternative options.

Exam Pattern for Language Skills

This section will test the aspirant’s knowledge in English language. The total number of questions asked in this section will be 32. This section has to be solved within 22 minutes.

Exam Pattern for Quantitative Skills

This section will assess the basic mathematical ability of students. The total number of questions asked in this section will be 48. This section is considered to be relatively a scoring section and the time limit is 60 minutes. The difficulty level for this section is 10+2 level.

Exam Pattern for Logical Skills 

The logical skills section is designed to evaluate the understanding of patterns from the data given and to test the visualization power of aspirants. This section will comprise of 40 questions to be answered within 38 minutes.

NMAT 2018 Marking Scheme

Applicants must know the marking scheme in order to decide how to attempt the questions in the entrance exam. There has been no change in the marking scheme of NMAT 2018 and it is the same as it was for the year 2017. The marking scheme is stated as follows:

  • 1 mark will be awarded to candidates for marking every accurate answer.
  • There will be no penalty of marks charged for marking incorrect or wrong answers i.e. negative marking is not applicable.
  • No mark will be deducted from the total score of the student for leaving a question blank or failure in attempting it.
  • The marking of two options is not possible as candidates have to choose only 1 option that seems the most appropriate and clicking on another option will mark it as the answer.

Qualifying Marks

The qualifying marks for NMAT 2018 will be decided by the organizing body, NMIMS (Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies). Candidates should note that they must qualify both, section wise and total cut-off marks to be eligible for admission to various management programs. Those applicants who do not score the minimum stipulated marks will not qualify and hence will not be short-listed for the Case Discussion and Personal Interview rounds.

NMAT 2018 Exam Syllabus

The syllabus for NMAT 2018 is based English, Mathematics and Logic of Higher Secondary or 10+2 level knowledge. It will be as decided by GMAC for every section. Applicants must make sure that they follow the right syllabus to prepare well for the exam. The section wise syllabus is given as follows:

Language Skills 

Aspirants must have a good command over the English language and communication skills in order to acquire admission in the MBA or the PGDM programs. The language skills section assesses an aspirant’s command over the language and grammar skills. It will also consist of 2 to 4 passages based on which the students must answer the questions that follow. NMAT 2018 is designed to evaluate the comprehension and grammar skills of the candidate. It is deemed to be a difficult section as the time limit of 22 minutes requires fast and accurate answers. The main topics of this section are:

  • Reading comprehension
  • Poems
  • Dictionary meanings of different words
  • Syntax and correct grammar
  • Language usage and their rules
  • Synonyms
  • Antonyms
  • Make the error
  • Idioms and Phrases
  • Fill in the blanks
  • Para jumbles

Quantitative Skills 

NMAT 2018 is a time bound computer based test and it tests the candidate’s speed and accuracy in the Quantitative Skills section. This section assesses the student’s ability to apply mathematical concepts to solve real time problems. It is the most scoring section of the exam. The difficulty level for this section is of 10+2 level. The important topics along with some major sub-topics for NMAT 2018 syllabus for the section are as follows:

  • Arithmetic- Number System, HCF, LCM, Ratio and Proportion, Simplification, Percentage, Average, Age Calculation, Time and Work and Distances.
  • Algebra- Theory of Equations, Quadratic Equations, Permutations and Combinations, Sequence and Series
  • Geometry- Angles, Lines, Triangles, and Circles
  • Trigonometry- Trigonometric Ratios, Heights and Distances
  • Mensuration- Area and volume of cones, spheres, cubes and cuboids

  • 2D and 3D geometry- distance between 2 points, distance between a point and a plane, distance between a line and a plane.

Logical Skills

The logical reasoning section of NMAT 2018 assesses the aspirant’s ability to analyze basic logical questions which require a reasoning aptitude to understand and solve. Questions are designed so as to measure the ability of drawing logical conclusions based on arguments or statements and identifying the strengths and weaknesses of those arguments. This section consists of abstract, diagrammatic, inductive reasoning questions and shape sequences and logical patterns. Important Exam Day Instructions

Aspirants must ensure that they follow some rules and regulations to maintain the decorum of the exam hall and to ensure that the examination proceeds properly.

  • Applicants must report to the test centre atleast 45 minutes prior to the scheduled test appointment.
  • They must bring the Confirmation email print out, Admit Card issued by NMAT by GMAC and original valid Photo and Signature ID along with 1 photocopy along with them.
  • They must then accept the Non-Disclosure Agreement and choose the order of sections.
  • Aspirants will have to mark their answers and review the questions of a particular section within the allotted time.
  • If an aspirant moves out of a section, then he will not be able to return to that particular section to attempt or review the questions/ answers.
