NATIONAL LEVEL ONLINE TEST

Top MBA Colleges other than IIMs Accepting CAT Scores

Last Updated - September 12, 2017

With an ever increasing number of MBA aspirants, CAT (Common Admission Test) has seen a considerable rise in the number of applicants appearing for it with each passing year. CAT is a national level exam conducted by one of the IIMs for candidates seeking admission in Top Management Colleges in India.

IIMs, justifiably have a good reputation among the MBA aspirants across the country, as they provide best of the faculty along with opulent growth opportunities. However, there are other equally competitive Non-IIM institutes which build the foundation for future CEOs and Entrepreneurs. The admission to MBA programs in institutes across India is primarily based on CAT Scores.

While shortlisting the institutes for admissions, candidates consider various aspects like, cut off percentile, placements, growth and learning opportunities. Over the years, Non-IIMs such as Faculty of Management Studies (FMS), Delhi, Department of Management Studies, IIT Delhi, Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar, etc. have made it to the preference list of aspirants.

Similar to these, we have enlisted some of the top Non-IIM colleges which are competent enough and accept CAT scores for admission to various specializations of Management programs offered by them.

Factors to Consider While Selecting Top MBA Colleges

There are many factors which are considered relevant and are pondered over while shortlisting B-Schools for CAT Selection Process. Candidates look for quality education, good infrastructure, better placements, cut off percentile, etc. while filling in their preferences. NIRF’s list of Top Management Schools in India is significantly contributing towards this exercise.

It is important to note that some Non- IIM MBA colleges accept scores of top management exams other than CAT which includes MAT, XAT, CMAT, etc. The list of such institutes includes Xavier Institute of Management (Bhubaneswar), Institute of Management Technology (Ghaziabad) and T.A. Pai Management Institute (Manipal).

Let us look at the major factors influencing aspirant’s decision to shortlist B-Schools including IIMs and Non-IIMs.

  • Cut Off Percentile- Colleges across India consider CAT Scores to admit candidates to various specializations of MBA program. Candidates can fill in their preferences once they are sure of the cut percentile required by the institution. Many Top B-Schools have set their percentile cut off between 90-98 over the past few years.
  • Placements- Though IIMs have a reputation of providing good on-campus placements, but there are many highly reputed Non-IIM B-schools which have good placement records and high salary packages too. Among these, FMS, SPJIMR, XIMB, etc. secure good positions.
  • Quality Education and Pedagogy- The major contributor into this decision making is the quality of education and teaching methodology an Institute imparts. MBA Aspirants look forward to an enriching experience, therefore, faculty of the management school is expected to be top-notch.
  • Infrastructure- While many neglect this factor, however, it is equally important to have good infrastructure and study environment for the students. MBA aspirants look forward to the practical knowledge and real-life experiences, therefore, institutions are expected to be technologically sound.

Grading of MBA Colleges in India

The MBA Colleges across India are segregated on the basis of grading/rating. The bifurcation is mainly based upon the cut off percentile set by each institute for admission of candidates to various specializations offered under MBA program.

The table given below elucidates list of institutes on the basis of CAT Cut Off percentiles. The cut off percentile is drawn for general category candidates only. As per the observations, candidates securing percentile above 94 will easily get through top IIMs including IIM A, IIM C, IIM B, along with Non-IIM institutes such as FMS, MDI, IIT Delhi, etc. These B-Schools are graded under A+ Category.
