Bikramjeet Singh appeared for CAT in 2014 and scored 85.81 percentile score. He participated in 4 GDPI rounds. He was offered admission by many institutes. He took admission in Lal Bahadur Shastri Institute of Management, New Delhi.  We interviewed him and he shares his experience with us. The following questionnaire may help you in preparing for CAT 2017.

CAT Preparation Tips

Ques. The institutes that offered you admissions?     

Ans. I was offered admissions from UBS Chandigarh, LBSIM, FORE and IMT Nagpur

Ques. Apart from CAT which exams do you appear?

Ans. Apart from CAT I also appeared for XAT, CMAT, NMAT, IIFT and SNAP.

Ques. What was your mode of CAT preparation?  

Ans. Classroom coaching.

Ques. Review the coaching institutes and what was their role in your story?   

Ans. They provide the whole material and CAT practice papers which help you to handle stress in exams and how to manage time and score better.

Ques. How did you manage CAT preparation schedule along graduation studies/ working hours?

Ans. No, I didn’t work simultaneously, I took one year gap for the CAT preparation. In that time I worked really hard to cover each topic from CAT syllabus.  

Ques. What is your five point rule to excel CAT 2017?     

  • Time management
  • Don’t be nervous
  • Devote your time to all the sections
  • Read all the questions and analyze them
  • Don’t over attempt as it has negative marking

Ques. Which mock papers did you take?

Ans. I practiced the sample papers through AIMCAT.

Ques. Rate the role of your coaching institute (classroom or online both) in cracking CAT?

Ans. 8  

 Ques. Name the institute (online or classroom) from where you took coaching.     

Ans. I joined TIME Jalandhar.

Ques. What were your strong and weak areas? How did you prepare and what special efforts did you put for improving your weak areas?    

Ans. I am good with Quant, DA, and Reasoning but my English is average so I started reading English newspaper so that I can be effective in that particular area. I always try to do fewer questions in English with high accuracy.

Ques. What are the websites you followed regularly to practice free sample papers or to get updates?  

Ans. I only preferred the Time website. They provide good practice materials. 

Ques. Discuss your strategy for the Quantitative Aptitude section.

Ans. It is the most scoring area and takes more time. So start solving quant section first.

Ques. List the name of books you followed for DI.    

Ans. The material provided by Time was so good that I didn’t require any book.

Ques. Discuss your strategy for the Data Interpretation section.

Ans. Data interpretation is the simple one and it has lots of calculations so prefer to do it after completing quant section.

Ques. List the name of books you followed for the Quantitative Aptitude section.   

Ans. I just practiced the material provided by Time.

Ques. Discuss your strategy for the Logical Reasoning section.

Ans. Reasoning can be done after completing quant and DI section.

Ques. List the name of books you followed for Logical Reasoning  

Ans. I only followed the study material provided by the Time Institute and didn’t refer any text book.

Ques. Discuss your strategy for the Verbal Ability section.      

Ans. You can do this section only after a lot of practice. So do it in last because you just have to read it to solve it.

Ques. List the name of books you followed for the Vocabulary and Grammar section.        

Ans. I followed the study material provided by Time Institute.

Ques. Discuss your strategy for the Vocabulary and Grammar section.

Ans. Follow any good book which can help you in clearing concepts and score good marks

Ques. What should be the strategy for someone who is starting just two months before the exam?

Ans. Just work hard and flourish those areas where you are weak. So work hard.

Ans. It was stressed. They generally asked questions related to the academics, family background and the area of interest.
