CAT 2016 Selection Process for IIMS

After the declaration of CAT 2016 Results, each IIM declares individual CAT 2016 Cut offs. The candidates clearing the CAT Cutoff have to participate in the CAT 2016 Selection Process. The CAT Selection Process for the IIMs is independent of one another. An overview of the CAT 2016 Selection Process is given below:

Stage 1: Post CAT Result declaration, the CAT 2016 Selection Process includes Group Discussion (GD) or Written Ability test (WAT). Nowadays, most of the IIMS prefer WAT or Written Test in lieu of Group Discussion.

Stage 2: The qualified candidates have to participate in the Personal Interview or PI Round. The candidates will be individually informed by Interview letters from the respective institutes.

CAT 2016 Selection Criteria

The most crucial criteria that determines the candidates’ chance of getting into the post-result selection process is their performance in CAT. However, each IIM has its own set of selection criteria apart from the CAT Result that the IIM uses at different stages of selection process. Some of the factors are:

  • Earlier academic performance: The IIMS have different weight on the overall academic performance including Class 12 and Graduation scores.
  • Work Experience: Many IIMS consider work experience as a bonus to the candidate’s profile.

The weight given to the above short-listing criteria varies across the IIMs.
