CAT Registration 2016: Candidates with Backlogs and Supplementary can appear for CAT 2016, says IIM Bangalore

CAT aspirants, who are willing to give CAT Exam, but are in a fix due to their supplementary or backlogs need not to worry about the registration as IIM Bangalore, the conducting body for CAT 2016, is giving an opportunity to them as well. Now, CAT aspirant won’t have to wait for a year to get registered himself/herself for CAT exam, if he/she is having a supplementary or backlog. Candidate with backlog and supplementary are allowed to get themselves registered for CAT 2016. With a response to query that whether candidates who has completed their Bachelor's degree in May-June, but are having a backlog are eligible to apply for CAT 2016; IIM Bangalore has nodded ‘YES’ to them.

Since, a day is left for CAT Registrationas the application process for CAT exam will get closed on September 22, 2016 at 05:00 PM, candidates are advised to enroll themselves as soon as possible in accordance to their graduation marks scored as per their category.

Clarifications on CAT 2016 Registration Confusion

Though, there are still 5 days left for CAT registration, but some candidates are still dealing with some confusions and are unable to register smoothly for CAT Application Process. To make it more precise and clear about the CAT registration, we are mentioning some pointers to give you a sigh of relief.

  1. CAT aspirant who has already completed his/her bachelor's degree but is having a backlog, he/ she can successfully register and apply for CAT 2016.
  2. Even if a candidate have to re-appear in a supplementary examination to complete the graduation degree, then also he/she is equally eligible to apply for CAT exam.

  1. The minimum required percentage to apply for CAT 2016 is 50% marks (in graduation) for general category and 45% marks (in graduation) for other categories.
  2. Candidate needs to check 'YES' option against the column -'Are you in the final year of Bachelor Degree' while filling the CAT Application Form.
  3. CAT aspirant needs to submit a certificate latest by June 30, 2017 from the Principal/Registrar of the particular college/institute. The certificate should state that the student has completed all the requirements including appearing for supplementary exams.

Other Changes in CAT Registration Process

This year for CAT 2016 Application process, some relevant new changes have been marked against the protest and queries raised by the CAT aspirants. These changes are made by IIM Bangalore for the ease of the candidates, so that more and more CAT aspirants could be able to apply for CAT 2016. Below stated are some major variations which are modified by IIM Bangalore, recently, to make the registration process easier and maximum reachable for the candidates.

  1. Earlier, there was much speculation among CAT aspirants consisting of professors, retired bureaucrats, PSU executives that whether they are eligible to take up CAT exam, since they attain a bachelor's degree in the old pattern from the universities that used to give two years duration bachelor's degree. Until last year CAT registration only accepted marks for graduation degree in the traditional three years format. The candidates who completed their graduation before 1980's faced issues while applying for CAT. So, in order to provide relief in this regard, a change in graduation marks category has been introduced. Now, the registration form asks for the commencement and completion of bachelor’s degree and provides category to fill-in marks as per the number of years taken to complete the graduation.

  1. CAT aspirants had to face lot of problem in reaching Greater Noida (Suburb of Noida), which is one of the CAT Exam Centre. Noida was not on the exam centers list of CAT exam, since 2014. But, after the request of innumerable candidates to designate Noida as an exam centre in Delhi NCR, Prof. Rajendra K Bandi, faculty at IIM Bangalore accepted the demand and incorporated Noida as a designated test centre for the entrance examination.  Normally, CAT is conducted in the month of winters i.e. November-December, so it often gets difficult for the students/candidates to commute and each to the test centre. In order to eliminate this problem and keeping in mind the traveling problems faced by aspirants, IIM Bangalore gave a decision in favor of assigning Noida as a test center.

1. Candidates must attain a graduation degree, with 50% marks or equivalent CGPA. 5% relaxation is given to SC/ST and PWD category i.e. they are eligible if they score 45% marks in their graduation marks.

2. The students who are appearing in the final year of graduation or equivalent examination are also eligible to apply for CAT 2016.

3. CAT aspirants or students, who are awaiting their results for graduation can also apply.

  1. First and foremost, eligible candidates need to register themselves for CAT 2016 by visiting the official website.
  2. Then, candidate will find the link of 'CAT Exam Registration Process', click on that link.
  3. By clicking on that link, a form will be displayed, candidate is required to fill the mandatory details.
  4. Then, CAT aspirant is required to make the payment, which is essentially required application/registration fee.
  5. After completion of above steps click on 'Submit' button for submitting the application and download the same for your reference and future use.

Please Note: The candidate has to select any four exam cities in accordance to their preference or choice.
