Jay Prakash appeared for CAT in 2010 and scored 76 marks. He took admission in AIMA (All India Management Assosciation). His response to our questionnaire for CAT Toppers was simple yet effective. He shares his success mantra and it can be an inspiration to many of the CAT 2016 aspirants.

Q. 1 What is your five-point rule to excel CAT?
There is no 5 point rule to excel CAT. I would say just go with fresh mind in the exam and do your best.
Q.2 What were your strong and weak areas? How did you prepare and what special efforts did you put for improving weak areas?
My strong areas were Quantitative Aptitude, Reasoning and Data Interpretation. I was weak in General Knowledge and English.
Q. 3 Did you take coaching classes? If yes, how they did help in your story?
Yes. I did classes from T.I.M.E. and it helped me a lot.
Q. 4 Review the coaching institutes and what was their role in your story?
The role was very vital. Initially I didn’t know how to prepare for CAT but TIME provided all the related information from time to time.
Q. 5 What mock papers did you take?
I didn’t opt for any other mock papers except the one provided by TIME.
Q. 6 What are the website you followed regularly to practice free sample papers or to get updates?
I only followed Wikipedia and The Hindu.
Q. 7 Quantitative aptitude: Discuss your strategy for the section.
I am a strong player in Quantitative Aptitude so there was no specific strategy.
Q. 8 List the name of books you followed for Quant.
I only followed the books provided by TIME Institute.

The only thing to perform better in DI is to be strong enough in Quants. There is no particular strategy of mine except practice.

The booklets and study materials provided by TIME.
Q. 11 Logical Reasoning: Discuss Your Strategy for the Section
Logical Reasoning is little tricky. My suggestion just pay attention and understand the question first than reply.

Read The Hindu, Economic Times and learn new words.

I only preferred books from TIME.

Q. 15 Write some of the preparation tips for someone who is starting a month before the CAT 2016 exam?
I would say, just be yourself and do not copy anyone. Everyone has his own limitations and strong points. Try to drop down your limitations and increase your strengths.
Q. 16 How was the interview in counselling? Share some of the Questions.
The interview was good. The questions were based on the resume. I just remember a question- “you are a Delhite so how could you describe Delhi?”
