CAT 2016 Registration closes, More Women Applicants this year

Last Updated - September 29, 2016

This year, for CAT 2016, the number of CAT applications have seen a hike of 14,000 extra registrations. And, this time, for a change almost half of the additional applications came from women candidates. This indicates a marginal hike in overall share of women applications for CAT 2016. However, the amount of applications coming from male candidates are highest in number. Male aspirants still form a majority by comprising 67 per cent of total registrations for CAT exam.

CAT Convener, Rajendra K Bandi says "From CAT 2010 to CAT 2016, this is the highest number of applications." He further added "If we look at the total increase in the applications compared to last year, which is close to 14,000, almost half of these additional applications have come from women candidates. This is a positive sign. That means, the increase of women candidates is more than the increase of male candidates." Also the applications from persons with disability (PWD), has certainly increased from 901 to 938, compared from the records of last year's registration. To encourage women candidates belonging to PWD category, Rajendra K Bandi added by saying "In the PWD category, the percentage of male candidates is very high at over 80 per cent, which is something to think about. Our social systems need to encourage women PWD students. However, on the positive side, the percentage of women PWD candidates has increased from 14.76 per cent to 17.48 per cent. Small positive steps, but miles to go on this".
