Q. How to fill aggregate marks in % in CAT Application if my board provides grades instead of marks?

A. There are two situations in this case:

1. The board awards Grade Point Average (GPA)/CGPA while providing an equivalent percentage of marks on the grade sheet.
2. The Board awards only letter grades without providing an equivalent percentage of marks

In first situation it may not be difficult to enter the equivalent percentage as it is also mentioned on grade sheet or they have provided a way of calculating aggregate marks through grades.

In second case if only letter grades are provided  then the candidate should obtain a certificate from the board/ Institute specifying the equivalent marks which should be used for filling the CAT application form. The original certificate needs to be submitted at the time of interview, if shortlisted for the same.

2.2.3. Bachelor degree details- In this part there are two cases. If you are in the final year of Bachelor Degree or you have completed Bachelor Degree.

CAT-Application process

Q. I am in the seventh semester of my degree? How would I enter my aggregate marks?

A. If you have not completed your bachelor degree, you may enter the aggregate % marks up to the last mark statement received from your university. So if you are in seventh semester, you may enter the marks details till sixth semester.

Q. What If my degree does not follow semester system?

A. If you are pursuing a degree that follows yearly semester instead of semester, then you can enter the semester accordingly. For example if you are in third year of your degree, you should enter the sixth semester then.

Q. What if my discipline does not appear in drop down? I am pursuing my B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering but while filling CAT form I am unable to find mechanical in drop down menu?

A. CAT application form doesn’t include all the engineering specializations in its drop down. You may simply choose Engineering/Technology in discipline section. Same goes with other streams’ disciplines. You may choose only your stream like Arts/Science/Commerce etc.

A.  Enter your duration of degree as 3 years and your starting and completion of the course accordingly. Please make sure your Degree should be recognized by UGC, AIU or equivalent bodies or else your application will get rejected.

Q. I am pursuing integrated/dual degree course. How would I enter my marks in Bachelor degree details?

A. In case you are pursuing integrated course or completed integrated course then it is difficult to segregate the aggregate marks for bachelor degree. CAT 2015 center suggests in this case you should enter the percentage of marks obtained as per your University/Institute norms which is considered as equivalent to Bachelor’s Degree for this section and enter the percentage of marks obtained in the remaining years in the Master’s degree section. If you are pursuing integrated degree, after your 12th/HSC, enter the percentage of marks obtained for the years/semesters completed till date.

For example, As per some university’s norms, in a five year integrated course, the first 3.5 years are assigned for bachelor’s degree and rest 1.5 years for master’s degree, in this case you are supposed to enter the percentage of marks in Bachelor’s degree column for 3.5 years and in Master’s degree column for rest 1.5 years.

In duration of course column you must enter the total duration of course i.e. 5 years.

Click on the Save Continue button and it will take you to the next step that is programs.

2.4 Programs:

In this part IIM programs, interview city and test center preferences are filled.

2.4.1. Choosing programs and interview city

  • For IIM Ahmedabad PGP you may choose two preferences for interview cities, for every other  IIM and program only one city can be chosen
  • There are specific interview cities for each IIM’s each course.

Note: Candidates are requested; please select the same city for interview for all the sections if any candidate is applying for PGP/PGDM course at the following IIMs.

For Example- If any candidate selects IIM Ranchi for PGP course and IIM Kashipur for PGDM course then your interview city should be same for both courses.

CAT-Application process

2.4.2  Exam Centre City Preferences:

Candidate can select maximum four test centers for CAT 2015 exam. However, the exam city would be allocated to you on the basis of availability of center and node.

This year you can select four choices for the test center which were three earlier. Also the registration window will be open for 46 days this year (which earlier was 30 days). So there are less chances of getting your first preference for the test center.

However this year female candidates will get some benefit in test centers preferences. According to CAT 2015 convener, this year female candidates will get test centers nearest to the cities; the reason behind this is to make the gender disparity low.

  • Candidate cannot select the same city for more than one preference.
