NATA 2017 is conducted by CoA (Council of Architecture). It is a national level entrance exam that measures a candidate’s aptitude in the field of Architecture. The exam is taken for admissions to the 5 years B. Arch. Programs offered by NATA Scores accepting Institutes. Successfully registered candidates who meet the criteria will be allowed to take the test.

Who should take NATA 2017?

NATA 2017 is an entrance test for candidates seeking to get admission into 1st year of undergraduate degree course in Architecture in India.

The test is designed to assess a candidate’s observation skills, drawing skills, sense of proportion, aesthetic sensitivity and the ability of an applicant to think critically, which are altogether an important concept for getting admission in Bachelor of Architecture. A student must possess these qualities to qualify NATA 2017 with a good score.

As NATA Score is used by admission authorities of different Government, Government aided and unaided schools or colleges that offer Bachelor degree in Architecture. NATA is taken to provide a common base to compare the qualifications of the candidates, in addition to their scores in the qualifying examination.


NATA Eligibility Criteria

To become eligible for NATA a candidate is required to fulfill a certain set of eligibility conditions. Mentioned below are the predefined criteria set up by the conducting bodies:

General Criteria 

  • The lower age limit for appearing in NATA has been waived. However, the candidate has to comply with any age constraints that may be specified by respective Counselling/ Admission Authority.
  • To fill the ‘Total Marks’ and ‘Obtained Marks’ fields for Class 10th Standard has become Optional now. 
  • In view of 10th Std Grade cards from which marks is not easily obtainable, Application Form fields "Total Marks", "Obtained Marks" are made Optional.
  • Candidates who have passed his/her Senior Secondary Examination (10+2) or equivalent exam, having Mathematics as one of the subjects are eligible to appear for NATA 2018.
  • Candidates who have passed 10+3 diploma with 50% marks in aggregate in any stream from Central/ State Government are also eligible to apply for NATA. Mathematics is a compulsory subject for this as well. 
  • He/she must have secured at least 50% marks in aggregate in SSC/10+2 or equivalent examination. The marks cannot be rounded off, as if the candidate has secured 49.9% marks in his/her qualifying exam then the marks would be counted as 49.9% only.
  • Score of NATA 2017 is valid for a period of 24 months i.e. 2 years from the date a candidate appears for NATA exam. After that he/she has to again register for the next NATA exam and has to get a valid NATA Score/Rank
  • For students of international/ NRI status, NATA 2017 Eligibility remains the same as it is for the Indian nationals. There is no separate set of Eligibility parameters set for international/NRI candidates who wants to appear for NATA 2017

For Admission to B.Arch. Course

  • A candidate who has qualified a recognized Aptitude test in Architecture (NATA or equivalent) in 2017 are eligible.
  • Candidates who have cleared NATA 2016 can also participate in the exam.
  • There is no provision of direct lateral admission in any year or at any stage of B. Arch. course, under any circumstances or on the basis of any qualification.
  • There is no change in NATA 2017 eligibility for SC/ST/OBC or any other special category candidates as well. However, students can ask for reservation schemes while applying for admissions under various admission authorities. 
  • Also, the criterion mentioned in the General Criteria is applicable for this as well. 

Note: Candidates are informed, no direct lateral admission is allowed at any year/stage of B.Arch. course based on any qualification.

FAQs

Ques. I am an NRI student. Am I eligible to take the exam from my country of residence?

Ans. No, you are required to register in India for NATA exam and appear for it from any of the designated exam center in India. Admissions are provided by the respective admission authorities (colleges/ universities) as per their guidelines.

Ques. If I belong to reserved category (SC/ ST/ NT etc), will I get score waiver fot NATA at the time of final admissions?

Ans. No, as per standards laid out by CoA, there is no provision of the same.

Ques. What is NATA Eligibility for admission to B.Arch. and can students with mathematics and commerce as their subject are eligible to appear for NATA?

Ans. The eligibility for admission, it is necessary to have a minimum of 50% marks in 10+ 2 in any stream (Commerce/ PCM) with maths as a subject and 40% marks in NATA Exam.
