MGU CAT 2017 Results

MGU CAT 2017 (Mahatma Gandhi University Common Admission Test) 2017 is conducted by MGU, Kerala for candidates who wish to seek admission in various Post Graduate courses. For the year 2017, MGU CAT test will be held in the last week of May, 2017.

Mahatma Gandhi University, Kerala will announce the results for MGU CAT in the second week of June, 2017. Admission to all the Post Graduate programs will be done on the basis of MGU CAT Results. However admission to M.Ed. program will be done on the basis of both the entrance exam marks and marks for qualifying examination.

MGU CAT 2017 Results

MGU CAT 2017 results will be announced by Mahatma Gandhi University in the second week of June, 2017. The results will be announced online on the official website of the university. Results for M.Ed. will be declared separately. Along with the results, a provisional rank list will be uploaded on the website.

Candidate must follow the steps given below to get his / her result for MGU CAT 2017

  • To check MGU CAT 2017 results, candidate must go to the Official Website.
  • Click on the result link provided on the official website of Mahatma Gandhi University. Candidate will be redirected to a new page.
  • Candidate must then fill in the roll number of MGU CAT 2017 examination and click on submit.
  • It is important to save and get a print out of the MGU CAT 2017 Result for future use.

MGU CAT 2017 Rank List

After the declaration of MGU CAT 2017 Results in the second week of June 2017, Mahatma Gandhi University will come up with a MGU CATRank List. Though a provisional rank list be uploaded on the day of declaration of MGU CAT 2017 Results, however, final rank list will be uploaded afterwards. For all the Post Graduate courses except M.Ed. course, the rank list will be prepared on the basis of two criteria:

  • Marks scored by the candidate in entrance test (the marks will be converted to 1000)
  • The bonus marks / weightage marks

Both, marks scored in entrance exam and bonus / weightage marks, if added together will make index marks. Candidates who wish to seek admission in M.Ed. course must note that the selection in this course will be made on the basis of the combined marks of marks scored in qualifying examination and marks scored in entrance test. The ratio for both, qualifying as well as entrance marks will be equal, i.e. 50:50.

MGU CAT 2016 Tie Breaker

There is a possibility that there might be a tie between two candidates having same rank. In such case, according to the rules of Mahatma Gandhi University, following will be done to resolve this tie:

  • If two candidates obtain same index marks, the one with more marks in entrance exam will be given priority.
  • In case, marks secured in entrance exam are same as well, then the age of candidates will be considered. Older candidate will be given priority in such case scenario.

Bonus Marks

Candidates who want to take admission in various post graduate courses offered by Mahatma Gandhi University are admitted on the basis of the rank list. The rank list prepared on the basis of entrance marks and bonus / weightage marks. Here is a brief summary of how are these marks awarded:

  • 5 bonus marks for NCC candidates

Candidates belonging to NCC will be awarded five bonus marks on the basis of NCC certificates issued by the directorate provided the candidate must have at least 75% of attendance in all the NCC activities. Candidate will be awarded 3 additional bonus marks if he / she holds “A” certificate and 5 marks each will be awarded to “B” and “C” certificate holders.

  • 5 bonus marks for NSS candidates

Candidates who have actively participated in NSS activities for at least 240 hours in the span of 2 years will be awarded 5 bonus marks. NSS candidate seeking admission in the Post graduate courses in Mahatma Gandhi University must produce a certificate duly signed by Vice- Chancellor and Pro Vice- chancellor proving the claim.

  • 15 bonus marks for Ex-servicemen applicants and widows and children of Jawans and Ex-service men

Candidate seeking admission in this category shall be awarded with 15 bonus marks. He / she must produce the certificate in support of their claim at the time of admission. The certificate should be obtained not earlier than six months from the last date of submission of application from the military authorities or state/Zilla Sainik Welfare Officer to the effect that the applicant is the son / daughter of ex-service man or an ex service man himself.

Weightage Marks

Candidate applying for M.Ed. course will be given weightage marks of 15 marks if he / she possess First Class PG degree. Candidate in possession of second class PG Degree will be awarded 10 weightage marks. 5 weightage marks will be awarded to the candidate with third class PG degree. Bonus marks will be given only if the B Ed degree and PG degree are in the same optional subject.

MGU CAT 2016 Reservation Criteria

Mahatma Gandhi University reserves seats for various category for each program in University Department. The reservation is made under three following categories:

  • Reservation for persons with disabilities.
  • Special reservation.
  • Mandatory reservation.

Reservation for Persons with Disabilities

3% of the total seats for each program is reserved for candidates who seek admission in this category. Candidate seeking admission in this category must fill the online application form for MGU CAT Entrance Exam and secure the required marks in entrance test.

For blind, deaf and orthopedically challenged candidates, one-third of the 3% seats are en-marked for each of the three categories. ‘Person with disability’ means a person suffering from not less than 40% of any disability as certified by a Medical Board constituted for this purpose.

Candidates who have a minimum of 40% disability alone will be eligible for this quota. Candidate under this reservation category will be selected on the basis of rank in the inter-se merit list and physical suitability.

Special Reservation

Special reservation of available seats shall be made for candidates falling under any one of the following categories:

  • Economically Backward among Forward Communities (EBFC) - For non-professional courses, 7.5% seats have been reserved under this category whereas for professional courses, 6.5% seats have been reserved. Candidate must produce BPL certificate signed by concerned authority. The candidates under this category can be considered for general allotment if number of seats fall short in EBFC category. There will be no requirement of separate application in such case.
  • Teacher Quota (for M.Ed. course only)- Teachers who have been working in the Government aided colleges or schools on regular basis will be eligible to take admission under this category. There will be one seat reserved under Teachers Quota. Candidate must produce a certificate proving the claim duly signed by concerned authorities.
  • Foreign students’ quota- Foreign candidates who either have applied on self-financing or through scholarships offered by ICCR (Indian Council for Cultural Relations) can admit themselves under this quota for various courses. Reservation of additional 10% or 2 seats, whichever is higher, is given under this category.

Documents required to seek admission in Foreign Students’ Quota

Candidate who attempt to seek admission under this category must submit the application form offline with demand draft / pay order of $100 in favour of Finance Officer, Mahatma Gandhi University and send the application at the given address:

Here is the list of documents required for admission under this category:

  • Curriculum vitae (CV).
  • Copies of mark lists / transcripts of all examinations undergone.
  • Two copies of recent passport size photographs.
  • Conduct certificate from the Head of the Institution last studied.
  • Reference letters from two persons who have intimate knowledge of the academic capabilities of the applicant.
  • Copy of Passport.

NOTE: Candidates who are subjects of Nepal are not required to obtain student visa for studying in India. They must forward a copy of the Nepal citizenship card to the Embassy of India in Kathmandu for verification and for onward transmission to Mahatma Gandhi University.

Mandatory Reservation

Mandatory reservation is made under two categories:

  1. Non- professional Programmes
  2. Professional Programmes

MGU CAT 2017 Counselling Process

Mahatma Gandhi University will release rank list and list of eligible candidates for admission in various courses. University will invite candidates for counselling. Those who fail to report at the counselling center will not be entertained any further.

Candidate must carry following documents at the counselling center:

  • Certificate to prove date of birth.
  • Transfer Certificate (TC) from the Institution last attended and Conduct Certificate.
  • Mark lists of Qualifying Degree examination and Provisional / Degree Certificate (if results are announced).
  • Equivalency Certificate for the Qualifying Examination, if applicable
  • Migration Certificate, if applicable.
  • Caste Certificate, Income Certificate, BPL Certificate, if applicable
  • Any other document required to be produced.

An allotment memo will be given to the candidates after verifying all the documents. Candidate must submit the original documents at the allotted institution which will be returned afterwards.

MGU CAT 2017 Seat Allotment Process

The candidates will be admitted first on the basis of the Open Merit List. Candidates who will make to the rank list will be eligible to get admission under open merit list. After the exhaustion of this category, candidates will be admitted under various quotas. The admission to various courses will be offered in hierarchy of quotas.

Candidate who falls under reservation category and gets allotment on the basis of his merit in the Open quota in an institution where a specified number of seats are kept reserved for the reserved category will be deemed to have been admitted in the Open category and NOT in the reserved category. While computing the percentage of reservation that candidate will be treated as Open category candidate and not as reserved category candidate.
