LSAT - Law School Admission Test by LSAC

Law School Admission Test (LSAT) is a worldwide law entrance exam, managed by Law School Admission Council (LSAC). It is conducted across 60 countries. Through this exam, candidates are shortlisted for admissions in undergraduate and postgraduate law courses offered in multiple law colleges.

LSAT Exam is conducted four times a year (June, September/ October, December, and February). More than 1,00,000 candidates appear for the examination annually.

Listed below are some quick facts about LSAT Exam:

  • LSAT Registration for all zones can be done via online mode only.
  • It is conducted four times a year (6 starting in 2018-2019) in the designated test centers throughout the world.
  • There are approximately 10 test centers in each country; all test centers are located in top cities or states.
  • 222 law schools are considering LSAT test for admission to law programs.
  • 60,000 applicants are asked for admission to the law programs across the globe.
  • CAS (Credential Assembly Service) allows applicants to have transcripts and recommendations sent once through LSAC.
  • Some law schools prefer students who take LSAT exam in December session so that they can join the law school in the next fall.
  • Taking LSAT exam in the month of June or September/October is often advised. 

The law entrance examination is conducted in offline mode. It will consist of 5 sections namely Reading Comprehension, Analytical Reasoning, 2 Logical Reasoning sections and a Variable Section. The following infographic indicates other important information about LSAT Exam Pattern.

LSAT Eligibility Criteria 

  • LSAT eligibility criteria are not fixed or mentioned by authorities.
  • Law Universities accepting LSAT Scores have their own eligibility standards.
  • Candidates must visit each university official website before mentioning the name of it in LSAT Application Form.
Note: If in case, a candidate is found ineligible or does not meet the standards defined, it will result in the cancellation of candidature. Also, the application fee will not be refunded.

The basic eligibility criteria for any law course are listed below:

  • Candidate must have cleared high school examination or class 12 examinations with minimum of 45% marks.
  • A bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 45% marks for LLB course.
  • For LLM course, candidate should have cleared 3 year LLB or 5 year LLM exam with 45% marks.
  • Candidates appearing in final year examination are eligible to apply.

LSAT Application Form 

  • Law School Admission Council or LSAC has not defined any clear lines for LSAT Registration.
  • Candidates have to visit LSAT Official Website in order to access the application form.
  • As per the authority, it is best to fill in the application in December or November.

Listed below are highlights for LSAT Registration:

  1. When to apply: Most law schools favour candidates who apply early for the exam. Try to apply for November and December so that you get upper hand at the time of seat allocation.
  2. Meet your pre-law advisor: Meet the professor before filling the forms; they can give you advice on form filling and course selection.
  3. Create your LSAC account: Registration is important. Get enrolled with the LSAC portal as soon as possible. Every law school has its own guidelines and deadline dates, this has to be considered and get be learned through ‘My calendar App’.

  4. Research about law schools: It is important to have a clear idea and knowledge about all the law schools you are interested in before applying.
  5. Attend a law school forum: Meet more than 100 law firms at such meets and try any workshop there.
  6. CAS (Credential Assembly Service ): Payment of CAS fee is important, and it must be approved by ABA law school. CAS is responsible for assembling report, LSAT score and letter of recommendation. Try to register by July. Colleges will obtain directly the copy of the report.
  7. Transcript and recommendations:  Best to wait until September when professors are getting back; their guidance will help in the selection of the best college.
  8.  Application and personal statement: Personal statement will be used in forming the edge for selection and allotment of college. Character communication will be done through personal statement so get it checked. 
  9. Request letter of recommendation: download the recommendation letter form and wait for two weeks after you placed the request, your letter will be sent to the colleges applied by you.
  10. Register for CRS (Candidate Referral Service): Register on the portal, so that law schools can contact you for recruitment.

LSAT Application Fee

  • The application fee will be accepted in US dollar.
  • LSAC application form fee is $100. Additional fee of CAS and registering of test center is compulsory.
  • It must be noted that the conversion rates if applicable will be borne by candidate.
  • Country taxes and exchange rates will affect the fees.
  • Application fee can be paid through credit/ debit card or net banking.
  • Payment of application fee through DD/ pay order/ banker’s cheque required to enter payment details online and obtain acknowledgment slip.
  • Application fee will be refunded partially but charges of booking a test center will not be refunded.

LSAT Admit Card

LSAT Admission Ticket is issued by LSAC. Candidates are required to visit the official website of LSAT i.e. www.lsac.org to download the document.  Listed below are important facts relating to LSAT Admission Ticket.

  • LSAT admit card is available for download from the 1 week before the exam.
  • Admit card will contain details of like candidate’s name, LSAT exam date, exam center, reporting address and time, candidate’s registration number, test center instructions, and procedure.
  • Photograph must be pasted in the space given for LSAT admit card.
  • A government issued photo id proof is important. In case photo ID proof is absent, the school issued ID card can work. School issued ID card must be supported by the birth certificate.
  • The admission ticket will be of 5 pages. It is important to read all the pages before reporting to the center.

How to download the LSAT admit card? 

  1. Open the official website i.e. www.lsac.org
  2. Look for LSAT Admit Card
  3. Fill the details of registration number and password on the screen.
  4. Click on “Submit” button.
  5. The admit card will be available on the screen.
  6. Download the admit card and take a print out.
  7. Affix your photograph on the space provided.

LSAT Exam Center 

  • There will be approximately 16 test centers in each part of the exam country.
  • Test center availability can be checked in real time if the booking is done online.
  • Additional fee has to be paid for the non- published test center, each time a request is placed.

  • Additional test center fee will not be refunded.
  • The request for a non- published test center will be finalized only if the supervisor of the centers approves the request.
  • LSAC test center will not be established in China.
  • LSAC test center will not be established in some location because of security season.

LSAT Syllabus 

Reading Comprehension:

  • RC section measures candidate’s ability for critical understanding.
  • There will be 4 sets of question of 400 to 500 words; each can have 4-8 questions related to the sets. 
  • The sets are generally related to law, arts & humanities, physical sciences or social sciences.

Logical Reasoning:

  • The questions in this section are designed to analyze, critically evaluate and complete argument against ordinary language.
  • Earlier it was referred to as the ‘analytical reasoning’ section.
  • Inference based questions are asked. Application of argumentative laws is done for problem-solving.

Analytical Reasoning:

  • The questions are designed to measure the ability to understand the structure.
  • The section will contain 24- 26 questions.
  • The deduction has done from a set of statements and rules to describe the relationship between people, things, and events.

LSAT Exam Pattern

LSAC has announced LSAT Exam Pattern, which is common to all the countries. There is no defined marking scheme for LSAT. The score calculation is done on the percentile basis. There is no marks allotment scheme for the correct answer.

In India, it is a pen-pencil based exam. Some questions may have 4 options others may have 5. Each section has to be completed in 35 minutes only. LSAT exam pattern was announced on September 14, 2016 and the details in the exam pattern include:

LSAT Result

  • LSAT result will be displayed within 6-7 business days.
  • LSAT result dates are tentative and will be released shortly by LSAC.
  • Score card through the mail will be delivered within 6-7 business days after the result is published.
  • Email score may take several hours to reach the home address.

LSAT Score Card 

  • LSAT score card will be available in online mode only.
  • LSAT score will be based on the number of correct attempts only.
  • There is no deduction for any incorrect answer.
  • Raw score will be generated on the scale of 120 to 180, 120 will be the lowest score and 180 being the highest possible score.
  • The score card will contain details of average score and percentile rank.
  • LSAT scores in valid for only 1 year.
  • Percentile score will be used for determining the rank.

LSAT Cut Off 

  • No official LSAT cut off will be released by LSAC.
  • LSAT cut off will vary with each state.
  • LSAT cut off will be decided by the participating colleges of a particular state and country.
  • There is no sectional cut off for LSAT exam.
  • LSAT law score can be mailed to the law school as asked by the candidate.

LSAT Counselling

  • There is no centralized counselling conducted by LSAC.
  • Every college will have its own counselling process.
  • Seat allotment will be done through counselling process.
  • Counselling fee has to be deposited separately for each college.
  • Percentile score will be forming the basis for attending LSAT 2017 counselling.
  • The LSAT score will be valid for 2017- 2018.

Hello Sir\Mam I am completed my graduation B.COM correspondence in last month 2015 with 2nd division. Am really confused what i do now? My financial condition is not good that's why am not done any additional course or diploma. I'll tried to apply many jobs but because of fresher and not any additional qualification i do not get any good job. Now i have so less confidence. So i want to know what i do now to enhance my carrier and to polish my skill and personality ..??? Thank you.
