KCET 2018: KEA (Karnataka Examinations Authority) manages the state level examination Karnataka Common Entrance Test. The exam is held for admission to Engineering, Technology, B. Pharma, 2nd year B.Pharma, Pharma-D courses and Farm Science courses. 

KCET 2018 is scheduled for multiple dates in April in offline mode. Conducting Authority KEA had extended the registration dates up to March 8, 2018 on student’s request.

  • March 8, 2018: The online registration for KCET is now over. 
  • KCET 2018 Syllabus will comprise of the syllabus of PUC 1st and 2nd prescribed by the Department of Pre-University Education of Karnataka State.

Earlier, aspirants seeking admission to medical and dental colleges in Karnataka had to appear for the exam. With NEET becoming the national level medical/dental entrance test, KCET medical exam has been discontinued. There is no entrance test for admission in Architecture, the admission is based on NATA scores or JEE Main Paper 2 through KCET Counselling.

Who Can Apply for KCET?

KCET eligibility criteria vary according to the courses candidates apply for. The basic eligibility for admission to various courses is mentioned below.

For Engineering Courses:

  • Qualifying Exam: Candidates have to qualify the 2nd PUC/10+2 or equivalent exam from a recognized board.
  • Subject: Candidates must pass their examination with Mathematics & Physics as a main subject & English as a language subject.
  • Minimum Marks: It is compulsory to score at least 45% marks (40% marks in SC/ST category) in physics and mathematics along with one of the subjects, i.e. Biotechnology/Biology/Electronics/Chemistry/Computer science.

For B.Pharma Course:

  • Qualifying Exam: Candidates have to pass their 2nd PUC/10+2 or equivalent with PCB/PCM and English as a language subject.
  • Minimum Marks: Candidates have to secure minimum 50% marks (40% in case of SC/ST Category) in PCB group.

Online Application Form

KEA has released KCET Online Application Form on February 1, 2018 at KEA website. The exam conducting authority has extended the last date for KCET Registration from February 26 to March 8, 2018. While the last date to pay the fees is extended up to March 9, 2018.

Steps to apply for KCET Registration 2018:

Step 1

  • Visit KCET website at
  • Select CET-2018 UG Online Application
  • Enter all the required details. Application Number and Password will be generated and sent on registered mobile number.

Step 2

  • Upload the scanned copy of recent passport size Colour Photograph, Signature and Left Hand Thumb Impression in JPG/JPEG format separately.

Step 3

  • Pay the application fee either by challan or net banking. 

Step 4

  • Take a printout of the application form on A-4 Size paper.
  • Obtain Principal seal and signature from the college where you have studied 2nd PUC or 12th Standard on the space provided in the printed form.
  • The same copy should be produced during document verification.

Application Fee:

  • Candidates can make payment only through offline mode (through the specified bank Challan).
  • The application fee is INR 650 for General & OBC category candidates.
  • Candidates, those belong to SC/ST category has to pay INR500 as an application fee.
  • INR 750 in case of candidates residing outside the state of Karnataka and INR 5,000 in case of candidates residing outside India.

Payment by Challan: The bank will retain bank copy of the Challan with them and handover the remaining two copies of the Challan to the candidates.

The candidates who are residing outside India shall pay the fees in the form of Demand Draft drawn in favour of Executive Director, Karnataka Examinations Authority, payable at Bangalore, the demand draft should be sent to KEA address by mentioning the application number.

Practical Test Feesfor admission under Agriculture Quota: INR 500/‐ for General and OBC (INR 250/‐ for SC, ST and Category ‐1), this fee amount will be paid at the respective Practical Test Centre on the day of verification of documents in the form of Demand Draft drawn in favour of Comptroller of the respective University.

KCET 2018 Admit Card

To download KCET admit card (Admission Ticket), candidates have to provide their Application Number and Date of Birth. Candidates need to preserve the admit card till the completion of the counselling process. 

  • KCET 2018 Admit Card can be downloaded from April 10, 2018 (11 am) onwards.
  • The admission ticket will be available at KEA website.
  • The admit card contain details such as name of candidate, roll number, address of the exam center, date of exam & time and other such details.
  • Without a valid admit card, no candidate will be allowed in the examination hall.

KCET 2018 Exam Centers

The KCET 2018 Exam is conducted at 54 locations which are spread all over Karnataka. The detailed list of exam centers can be downloaded from KEA website. Candidates, who have claimed eligibility under Horanadu & Gadinadu Kannadiga clauses, have to choose a Center for KCET 2018 which is located only in Bangalore.

Practical Examination for admission Agriculturist Quota will be conducted at Bangalore, Hassan, Mandya, Raichur, Mysore, Munirabad (Koppal District), Arabhavai (Gokak Tq) Tamaka (Kolar Distruct), Mangalore, Bidar, Bagalkot, Dharwad, Vijayapura, Hiriyur (Chitradurga) and Shimoga by concerned Agricultural / Veterinary Unviersities.

Kannada language test will be conducted only in Bangalore center.

KCET 2018 Exam Pattern

The candidates are required to have a complete knowledge of the paper pattern to score well in the examination. KCET Exam Pattern helps the candidates to make strategies and prepare appropriately. The question paper in each subject will be in 16 different versions (Sets) and each question will have 4 different options.

  • Mode of Exam: The exam will be held in offline mode (pen & paper based).
  • Types of Question: Question paper will be of Multiple Choice Type Question.
  • Number of Questions: Total 60 question will be asked from each section.
  • Time Duration: The total time duration is 320 minutes for the whole exam. Each section will be given 80 minutes.
  • Marking Scheme: One mark will be awarded for each correct answer.
  • Negative Marking: There is no provision for negative marking. No marks will be deducted/awarded for marking multiple options.

  • Practical Test  on “Identification of Agriculture Related Specimens” to claim seat under agriculturist quota is scheduled for April 27, 2018 on 9 am onwards.
  • The maximum marks of practical test is 200. 
  • Minimum of 50% marks in Practical Examination is required to claim seat under Agriculturist Quota.
  • The candidates claiming eligibility for Government seats under Horanadu & Gadinadu Kannadiga clauses and whose mother tongue is Kannada, Tulu or Kodava, will have to undergo a Kannada language test, to establish their ability to speak, read and write Kannada.
  • The minimum passing marks for for Kannada language test for all Horanadu and Gadinadu Kannadiga candidates will be 12 out of 50 marks in Kannada Language Examination.


The question papers of the Common Entrance Test will be based on the First and Second PUC syllabi (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology) prescribed by the Department of Pre-University Education of Karnataka State. Pre University College in Karnataka is equivalent to 10+2 or H.S.C. as prevalent in most of the education boards in India.

Answer Key

KCET Provisional ANSWER KEY will soon be published after the exam at KEA Website: The candidates/ parents/ lecturers can file their objections, if any, addressed to the “Executive Director, Karnataka Examinations Authority, Bangalore” on or before the last date either in person or only through SPEED POST / email: keauthority‐, with regard to any of the published answer Key, along with all supporting documents / justification.

  • The objections received by the KEA will be placed before an Expert Committee, whose decision will be final for determination of the right KCET answer key.
  • The answer key approved by the Expert Committee will be applied during evaluation for determination of merit order.  
  • Then correct answer key and the list of candidates whose results have been withheld and the reasons for withholding the results will also be published along with the results.

KCET 2018 Results

  • Separate result sheets showing the Medical / Dental, ISM & H, Engineering, Architecture, Farm science, B‐Pharm and  Pharm‐D ranks will be published in last week of May 2018 at
  • The KCET result sheets will not be displayed in the KEA premises.
  • Declaration of rank lists: Candidates will get different ranks for different courses like Engineering, agriculture, Horticulture, and other courses with the consideration of subjects and participants.
  • Feed the details: Candidates need to feed the credentials like Registration Number and Date of Birth to get the results sheet on the page.

KCET Cut off

KCET cut off will be available in the form of Closing Ranks. It is the minimum qualifying rank required by the candidate to be eligible for counselling process. The cut off depends on varied factors such as total seats available, number of candidates appeared, level of difficulty of exam.

KCET cut off is released by exam conducting authority for different institutes and branches of engineering. KCET Counselling and Seat Allotment for all the qualified candidates is conducted in multiple rounds as per the merit list and the no. of seats available in institutes.

KCET 2018 Counselling Process

  • Counselling date: The successful candidates clearing the KCET 2018 Exam will have to take part in the counselling process which will begin from 2nd week of June 2018.
  • Choice locking: One of the initial step before attending KCET Counselling Process is to make choice locking of the colleges and courses according to the candidates choice.
  • Eligibility: Candidates must have appeared and passed the 10+2 exam and got eligible marks in the exam. Candidates who will qualify the entrance exam as per the cut off and result list will be only eligible to appear in the Counselling of KCET 2018.
  • Admit card: It is also mandatory produce admit card during the counselling process, it is advised to preserve the admit card till the completion of the counselling process.
  • Information: Information about counselling will be available on the Official Website of Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA), includes all the details like counselling dates, steps to be followed, documents to be carried during the process of counselling.
  • Allotment process: Allotment for admissions into 267 engineering colleges, 32 architecture colleges, 61 pharmacy colleges, 39 farm science colleges and 76 ISM&H colleges happens through the counselling.

KCET 2018 Reservation of Seats

Candidates claiming reservation in Karnataka CET will have to fulfill the eligibility criteria of KCET 2018. The KCET Reservation Criteria for different categories are mentioned below:

Reservation for reserved category candidates – OBC, SC and ST

  • To avail the benefit of KCET 2018 reservation of seats, candidates must belong to Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe and Other Backward Classes of citizens under categories 1, 2A, 2B, 3A and 3B.
  • Such candidates must produce ‘Caste Certificate/ Caste Income Certificate’ issued by the concerned Jurisdictional Tahasildar during document verification.

Reservation for Rural candidates

  • 15% of the government seats are reserved horizontally in favour of rural candidates who have studied ten full academic years from Class 1-10 in educational institutions within Karnataka.

Reservation for Kannada medium candidates

  • 5% of the government seats are reserved horizontally for students who have studied ten full academic years in Kannada medium from Class 1-10 in educational institutions within Karnataka.

Seat Allotment Process

KCET 2018 Online Seat Allotment is expected to start from June 14, 2018. Candidates will be allotted seats in various programs under different disciplines of Medical, Dental, Ayurveda, Homoeopathy, Unani, Naturopathy & Yoga, Engineering & Technology and Pharmacy. 

  • Candidates have to complete the document verification process before obtaining provisional admission.
  • They have to submit the choices for option entry during the seat allotment rounds.
  • KEA also conducts a Mock Seat Allotment round for the benefit of all the eligible candidates.

Ques. I have made a mistake while filling my online form, can I correct it?

Ans. The entire online application process is in two phases. In the first phase candidates will fill the details and can edit the data any number of times and also can take the draft printouts before selecting the declaration. Before commencing the second phase, candidates can edit / delete / add any information any number of times.

Ques. What is the last date for application correction?

Ans. The form can be filled online up to March 8. However, once the declaration is done there is no provision to change / edit / delete / add any information to the entries already made by the candidates.

Ans. All the candidates should check their eligibility before applying for KCET 2018. Following are the eligibility conditions that a candidate must fulfil to appear in the exam-

  • Candidates must have passed 12th level qualifying examination with Physics and Mathematics as main subjects and English as a language subject.
  • Candidates must have studied Chemistry/ Bio-Technology/ Computer Science/ Biology as an elective subject in class XII.

Ques. I want to take admission in architecture course, what is the eligibility criterion for me?

Ans. Yes, If you wish to take admission in architecture course, you will have to appear in the JEE Main Paper 2 entrance exam or in National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA) which is conducted by Council of Architecture other than the other eligibility conditions as applicable to you.

Ques. What is the application fee for KCET 2018?

Ans. The application fee for General/ OBC candidates is INR 650, INR 500 for SC/ ST/ Category candidates and INR 750 for candidates who have qualified Pre-University and 12th standard from state other than Karnataka along with the Bank charges.
Candidates have to remit an application fee of INR 5000, if they are residing outside India.

Ques. What is the exam pattern for KCET 2018?

Ans. The KCET 2018 exam will consist of 180 multiple choice questions and the exam will be spread into two papers - Paper 1 – Mathematics and Paper 2- Physics and Chemistry.
All the three subjects will have 60 questions of 60 marks. The composite time for the papers is 1 hour 20 minutes.

Ans. The Merit for Architecture will be determined on the basis of Total marks obtained in the qualifying examination in all subjects and the Valid NATA score taken in equal proportions. In NATA you have to score minimum of 80 marks.

Ques. Who is authorized to issue Kannada medium study certificate?

Ans. The Principal/ Head master of the institution can issue Kannada medium certificate which has to be counter signed by BEO of the area/ jurisdiction. Uncertified certificate will not be accepted.

Hi Shashikant, you may apply for NEET 2018. However, there are some colleges like AIIMS and JIPMER which conducts their own entrance exam for the admission.
