JEE Main 2017 Seat Allotment

JEE Main Seat Allotment is conducted by JoSAA (Joint Seat Allocation Authority). The JEE Main Counselling and allocation is conducted in online mode. JEE Main Seat Allocation is done in different rounds based on the All India Rank. 

The candidates are allocated seats to various IITs, NITs, IIITs, GFTIs and ISM. Candidates have to select their preference of institutes during the registration process of JEE Main Counselling. The candidates who have not registered for JEE Main Counselling can register later for Spot Counselling. Spot Counselling in JEE Main is conducted for allocation of all the vacant seats. 

All the NITs except NIT Warangal, Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra and Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology, Shibpur offer seats under the Home State Quota and Other State Quota. For Assam University, Silchar, candidates are offered seats under the Home State Quota and All India Quota. NIT, Warangal allocates seats under Home State Quota, Other State Quota and Andhra Pradesh Quota. Check JEE Main Results

The states and union territories with no NIT will be allocated seats in the following institutes:

There will be a separate round of seat allocation for these Union Territories and the states of North East (namely Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Manipur, Nagaland, Sikkim, Tripura) after the joint seat allocation and seat acceptance under JoSAA. Seat allotment on such seats will be conducted through a CSAB NEUT (Centralized Seat Allotment Board for North Eastern States and Union Territories).

Dates for JEE Main Seat Allotment

JEE Main Seat Allotment commences from June 2017. It is carried out during the JEE Main Counselling. Candidates have to initially register and mention their choice of the institute or college. The detailed schedule of JEE Main Counselling and Allocation is given below:

JEE Main Allotment Analysis

The candidates are allocated seats to various IITs, ISM, NITs, IIITs and other GFTIs through JEE Main Counselling. There are  total  34895 seats available for admission to B.Tech programme. The maximum percentage of vacancies is in GFTIs while it is minimum in IITs. Thus, highest allocation is done in IITs.

Out of the total of 9660 seats available in IITs, 9587 seats are allocated to the qualifying candidates leaving 73 vacancies. However, NITs allocate 16945 seats out of 18013 seats leaving 1518 vacancies. Factors affecting JEE Main 2017 Seat Allotment

All the JEE Main and JEE Advanced qualifying candidates are eligible to appear for JEE Main Counselling. Here are few factors which affect the seat allocation through JoSAA Counselling: 

  • The All India JEE Merit List.
  • The preference list given by the candidates.
  • The reservation policy of the institute and the number of candidate belonging to the reserved categories.
  • Availability of seats in different categories.

JEE 2017 Seat Allocation Process

JEE Main 2017 Seat Allotment is purely based on the merit and the choices made by the candidates. If the candidate rejects the seat allotted once, he will not be allowed to participate in the further rounds of the counselling process. First three rounds of the seat allotment will be conducted by JoSAA. The fourth round which is a special round of counselling is conducted by CSAB. The selected candidates must follow the following steps to participate in the JEE Main 2017 Counselling:

Online Application

  • Visit the official website of JEE Main 2017
  • Click the link of JEE 2017 counselling and fill all the details asked such as name, address, exam details, bank details, etc.
  • Fill the correct details and review them before submitting.
  • Pay the registration fee for the counselling process. Counselling fee can be paid via challan, debit card or credit card.

Choice filling

  • Fill your choice of colleges as per your preference.
  • Login to your account and mark options of colleges and courses to fill the preference.
  • The choice must be made carefully and according to the merit.The choices will not be changes or altered in any manner once submitted.
  • Submit the choices before the last date.

Seat Allotment, Document Verification and Reporting

The JEE Main Seat Allotment is done on the basis of the merit list, the preferences given by the candidates and reservation norms of the institute. The JEE Main Counselling will be held in mutiple rounds and thus, seat allotment is carried out in each round.

Report at the allotted center in order to verify the documents by the officials and reserve a seat. Pay the fee for the seat allotment process in time. Any request of getting admitted or payment of the fee after the last date will not be entertained. At last of this step, a provisional admission letter will be issued.

Candidate must report to the allotted institute with all the required documents. Any candidate who fails to carry any of the required documents will not be allocated any seat.

Documents Required

Candidates need to produce the following documents at the time of document verification. All the original documents and certificates should be produced. Any failure to bring any or all the documents mentioned will cancel the admission and the candidate will lose their right to claim the admission.

  • Candidates belonging to the reserved categories must bring their category certificate issued by the competent authority.
  • A character certificate issued by the high school must be produced.
  • JEE Main Admit Card and JEE Main Rank Card must be produced.
  • Copy of the Confirmation Page.
  • Certificates of Class 10th and Class 12th must be produced in original on the day of Document Verification.
  • Migration Certificate issued by the school.
  • Recent Photographs.
  • Candidates belonging to PwD Category must bring the original Medical certificate.
  • Attested copy of the Passport or any other equivalent identity card.

JEE Main 2017 Spot Counselling

In case, there are vacant seats even after the usual rounds of counselling, then JoSAA conducts Spot Counselling for allocation of such seats. Candidates do not have to apply separately for the spot counselling round in JEE Main.

Any candidate who has not been allotted any seat during usual rounds can appear for. Candidates who did not apply for the usual rounds of allotment can appear for Spot Counselling. The candidates who have missed the registration for JEE Main Counselling earlier have to register for Spot Conselling. Candidates who are applying fresh will have to lock the choices and make the payment of the fee before the last date.

JoSAA Dual Reporting for Seat Allotment

According to JEE Main 2017 JoSAA, Dual Reporting is the one time chance to switch the allocated seat. The candidate will be given a chance to apply again for the Counselling and then fill their choices. Dual Reporting is reporting twice to switch the allocated seat from one institute to another. Candidates can dual report when they want to change the allotment from NIT + System Changes to an IIT/ ISM.

If the candidate is allocated seat in NITs, IIITs or Other GFTIs but looking forward to confirming the allocated seat in IITs/ISM, in the next round of counselling, are required report once again at IIT/ISM Reporting Center. Same has to be done by the candidates who wish to leave the seat in IIT/ISM, to confirm the seat allocated in NITs + System Change. He/she will also have to report again at the NITs + System Change Reporting Center. Any failure to do so, the candidates will end up losing the seat in both NIT + System Change and IIT/ISM

Does IIEST, Shibpur reserve their 50% seats for the WB candidates ?

Hi Amlan, Yes IIEST, Shibpur will now reserve 50% seats for domicile candidates from Bengal.  Apart from reservation for domicile candidates, provisions for several other reservations have also been made for IIEST admissions.
