JEE Main 2018 Seat Allotment Through JoSAA, CSAB NEUT and SFTI

Admissions to NITs, IIITs and CFTIs will be based on their choices and JEE Main All India Ranks (AIR) through a Seat Allocation Process. The schedule for the process is announced later after the declaration of results. The verification of documents would be done at the time of Seat Allocation Process/admission.

JEE Main Counselling and Seat Allocation are conducted in online mode.The allocation of seats is done through JoSAA and CSAB. JoSAA is set to manage and regulate the joint seat allocation for admissions to 97 institutes (23 IITs, 31 NITs, 23 IIITs and 20 GFTIs. The result of JoSAA seat allotment can be checked with JEE Main roll number and password.

Manipal University

CSAB conducts Special Round of counselling for the candidates aspiring to take admission on the vacant seats in various NITs. CSAB SFTI is a separate counselling which is conducted for admission to 17 Self Funded Technical Institutions (SFTIs). CSAB NEUT is conducted for seats reserved in AICTE approved Institutes in India that are not covered under CSAB for the North Eastern States & Union Territories (NEUT).

  • All the NITs except NIT Warangal, Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra and Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology, Shibpur offer seats under the Home State Quota and Other State Quota.
  • For Assam University, Silchar, candidates are offered seats under the Home State Quota and All India Quota.
  • NIT, Warangal allocates seats under Home State Quota, Other State Quota and Andhra Pradesh Quota. 

The states and union territories with no NIT will be allocated seats in the following institutes:

JEE Main Seat Allotment Schedule

JEE Main Seat Allotment will commence in June 2018. Candidates have to initially register and mention their choice of the institute or college. The detailed schedule of JEE Main Counselling and Allocation is given below:

JEE Main Allotment Previous Year Analysis

The candidates are allocated seats to various IITs, ISM, NITs, IIITs and other GFTIs through JEE Main Counselling. The total number of seats available in the year 2017 for JoSAA Counselling were 34895 (for admission to B.Tech program). The maximum percentage of vacancies was in GFTIs while IITs had the minimum. Thus, highest allocation came from IITs.

Out of the total of 9660 seats available in IITs, 9587 seats were allocated to the qualifying candidates leaving 73 vacancies. However, NITs allocated 16945 seats out of 18013 seats leaving 1518 vacancies. JEE Main 2018 Seat Allocation Process

JEE Main 2018 Seat Allotment is purely based on the merit and the choices made by the candidates. If the candidate rejects the seat allotted once, he will not be allowed to participate in the further rounds of the counselling process. First three rounds of the seat allotment will be conducted by JoSAA. The fourth round which is a special round of counselling which is conducted by CSAB. The selected candidates must follow the steps given below to participate in JEE Main 2018 Counselling:

Online Application

  • Visit the official website of JEE Main 2018
  • Click the link of JEE 2018 counselling and fill all the details asked such as name, address, exam details, bank details, etc.
  • Fill the correct details and review them before submitting.
  • Pay the registration fee for the counselling process. Counselling fee can be paid via challan, debit card or credit card.

Choice filling

  • Fill your choice of colleges as per your preference.
  • Login to your account and mark options of colleges and courses to fill the preference.
  • The choice must be made carefully and according to the merit.The choices will not be changes or altered in any manner once submitted.
  • Submit the choices before the last date.

Seat Allotment, Document Verification and Reporting

The JEE Main Seat Allotment is done on the basis of the merit list, the preferences given by the candidates and reservation norms of the institute. The JEE Main Counselling will be held in mutiple rounds and thus, seat allotment is carried out in each round.

Report at the allotted center in order to verify the documents by the officials and reserve a seat. Pay the fee for the seat allotment process in time. Any request for getting admitted or payment of the fee after the last date will not be entertained. At last of this step, a provisional admission letter will be issued.

Candidate must report to the allotted institute with all the required documents. Any candidate who fails to carry any of the required documents will not be allocated any seat.

Documents Required

Candidates need to produce the following documents at the time of document verification. All the original documents and certificates should be produced. Any failure to bring any or all the documents mentioned will cancel the admission and the candidate will lose their right to claim the admission.

  • Candidates belonging to the reserved categories must bring their category certificate issued by the competent authority.
  • A character certificate issued by the high school must be produced.
  • JEE Main Admit Card and JEE Main Rank Card must be produced.
  • Copy of the Confirmation Page.
  • Certificates of Class 10th and Class 12th must be produced in original on the day of Document Verification.
  • Migration Certificate issued by the school.
  • Recent Photographs.
  • Candidates belonging to PwD Category must bring the original Medical certificate.
  • Attested copy of the Passport or any other equivalent identity card.

JEE Main 2018 Spot Counselling

In case, there are vacant seats even after the usual rounds of counselling, then JoSAA conducts Spot Counselling for allocation of such seats. Candidates do not have to apply separately for the spot counselling round in JEE Main.

Any candidate who has not been allotted any seat during usual rounds can appear for. Candidates who did not apply for the usual rounds of allotment can appear for Spot Counselling. The candidates who have missed the registration for JEE Main Counselling earlier have to register for Spot Counselling. Candidates who are applying fresh will have to lock the choices and make the payment of the fee before the last date.

JoSAA Dual Reporting for Seat Allotment

According to JEE Main 2018 JoSAA, Dual Reporting is the one time chance to switch the allocated seat. The candidate will be given a chance to apply again for the Counselling and then fill their choices. Dual Reporting is reporting twice to switch the allocated seat from one institute to another. Candidates can dual report when they want to change the allotment from NIT + System Changes to an IIT/ ISM.

If the candidate is allocated seat in NITs, IIITs or Other GFTIs but looking forward to confirming the allocated seat in IITs/ISM, in the next round of counselling, are required report once again at IIT/ISM Reporting Center. Same has to be done by the candidates who wish to leave the seat in IIT/ISM, to confirm the seat allocated in NITs + System Change. He/she will also have to report again at the NITs + System Change Reporting Center. Any failure to do so, the candidates will end up losing the seat in both NIT + System Change and IIT/ISM

Does IIEST, Shibpur reserve their 50% seats for the WB candidates ?

Hi Amlan, Yes IIEST, Shibpur will now reserve 50% seats for domicile candidates from Bengal.  Apart from reservation for domicile candidates, provisions for several other reservations have also been made for IIEST admissions.
