"Choose Right Books To Clear Concepts"- says Sachin, who Scored 180 in JEE Main 2013

Sachin Verma opted for offline mode as he feels that practicing in pen paper based mode is more comfortable to attempt paper in offline mode.

He feels that joining a coaching center for preparation of JEE Main will help you the most. According to him you should first be thorough with your NCERT Books before moving to other reference books. He advised to mainly focus on class 12th chapters.

Here are some Preparation Tips by him which will help you in your JEE MAIN preparation.


He says focus on the chapters you can excel. You can choose Hydraulics and Thermodynamics, Gravitation and Simple Harmonic Motion of class 11th and class 12th topics which you study in you board exams. He advised to first read the theory completely before jumping to a new chapter. Whenever in doubt refer back to the book and read theory again. While reading the theory note the important theorems, pay attention to Learn the most important theorems like work-energy theorem, Bernaulli’s theorem. Also revise previous year question banks regularly.

The main chapters to focus on are Mechanics, Electrodynamics, Optics, Thermodynamics and Modern Physics.Apart from studying NCERT books, He prescribed the following books to study:-



According Chemistry is the key to clear the exam. It is one of the section in which you can score more. Out of the 3 parts he found Physical Chemistry easiest but you need to practice it a lot. In organic just learn or cram whatever you can do to learn the chemical reactions. In inorganic Chemistry the initial part such isomerism is easy to grasp however it turns harder as one move towards the hydrocarbon part. For this you can study Morrison & Boyd, however according to him the book is quite bulky and not everyone can understand it in one grasp.

He suggested the following books for Chemistry:-



Mathematics was his weakest part. He ask to focus on learning the formulas. He studied 34 years IIT JEE Series for preparation. According to him Algebra part as large number of questions comes from this section. In Maths practicing is the key to success. All the mathematical formulas should in tips as it will reduce the time required to solve the question. He advised to practice the questions within a time span as will let you know your average time of solving the question so you can boost it up accordingly. He feels it is important to build your foundation by studying the basic concepts. For this he refers R.D. Sharma

Ques- What did you choose- Offline or Online mode for taking up the exam?

Ans- I choose the offline mode for taking up the exam. It was because, I have opted for coaching and there I have practiced enough for the pen and paper exams. Also in pen and paper exam you can have chance to look at the entire section in one go. This helps you in finding questions that are easy and you can attempt them easily and can get a confidence boost up.

Ques- Did you qualify for JEE-Advanced?

Ans- Yes


Ques- Did you take Coaching Classes? If yes, how did they help in your story?

Ans- Yes I opted for coaching in class 12th. My institute's name was Narayana Institute, Janakpuri branch. You can prepare for the Main exam with your CBSE studies but if your goal is to clear JEE Advanced then you should opt for coaching as it would only benefit you in preparing in a better way.

Ques- Rate the role of Coaching Institutes in cracking JEE Main

Ans- I will rate 8 out of 10. I feel coaching institutes play a major role in framing the base for the subjects and the test series provided by them are very helpful in doting out important questions.

Ques- How did you manage JEE Main Preparation along with your Class 12th exam?

Ans- It's all upon the student. If he is able to manage his time wisely then he can go for the JEE main preparation along with Class 12th exams. But I would say that even an average student can clear the JEE mains exam by just concentrating on his/her board exams giving a thorough reading to each and every concept of the NCERT books.

Ques- What were your Strong and Weak areas? How did you prepare and what special efforts did you put for improving them?

Ans- I was good in Maths in school but at institute I was not so good at that. Chemistry was my main focus and it was my strongest part without it I should say you can't even clear the Mains exam. In physics you should concentrate mainly over 12th class syllabus. In Maths you can take up a few chapters such as coordinate and algebra to do your preparations.

Ques- What mock papers did you take?

Ans- I took Narayana All India Test Series for my preparation and also solved 34 years question papers of IIT JEE. Alongside I also took several mock tests available online which benefited me a lot in gaining confidence.

Ques- Write some of the Preparation tips for someone who is starting 4 months before the exam?

Ans- I would just say that you should only focus on your board exams and have a thorough study of the NCERT books and concepts. Have a good command over Chemistry you can score even 110/120 in this subject very easily which will help you to clear the cutoff.
