JEE MAIN 2018 PANKAJ KUMAR

NATIONAL LEVEL ONLINE/OFFLINE TEST

"It's the Knowledge that Matters the Most"- says Pankaj, who scored 145 in JEE Main 2013

Pankaj Kumar opted for offline mode as he feels that Indian students are habitual of appearing in pen paper mode. He got admission in GJU Hisar. However  during the exam he faced a bit difficulty in marking the bubble and bubble once marked is irreversible, therefore he advices students to go for online mode as it will allow them to change their answers

He tried to pay equal attention to both Board Exams and JEE Main 2017  Exam. He used to study his text books on weekdays and prepared for JEE Main on weekends.

Here are some preparation points which will help you in your preparation:-

Physics

It was Concepts of Physics (Volume I & II) - H.C Verma, for Physics which had helped him in clearing his concepts. He used to solve the questions given in the book and “My package”. He also referred books such as  Fundamentals of Physics  by Resnick, Haliday, Walker, Problems in General Physics  by I.R Irodov. These books are also good and easy to understand. Focus on important chapters like Modern Physics, Thermodynamics, Mechanics and Thermodynamics. He advises to focus on building concepts and solving variety of numerical questions rather than quantity.

Chemistry

He feels Chemistry is one the subject which can assure good marks in JEE Main if you have prepared well. Most of the topics in chemistry are not twisted and get tested directly. It is very much advisable to solve past 20 years (Minimum) IIT JEE papers for chemistry as I used the same to prepare chemistry portion. Most of the questions are repeated in an indirect manner. This is true for inorganic and organic chemistry than physical chemistry because in physical chemistry lot of concept testing is involved.
I used to solve problems from past year’s question papers from online and offline tools When you solve problems from past year’s IIT JEE papers of Chemistry, you would see a pattern in which questions / concepts are tested. In fact with a proper planning you can make chemistry the most scoring subject out of all three in JEE. If you will make notes on what you have studied it will be very helpful during last week of exam

He prescribes the following books for studying Chemistry

Mathematics

According to him Maths is the keypoint to crack. For mathematics there are no shortcuts, you have to practice more and more.He had made a list of formulas which was really helpful. During revision he had solved mock series from Aakash .

  • He suggests to use the following books for reference:-
  • Plane Trigonometry Part – I and II (English) 4th Edition By S L Loney
  • The Elements of Coordinate Geometry Cartesian Coordinates Part – I
  • Skills in Mathematics Algebra for JEE Main & JEE Advanced By S K Goyal
  • Higher Algebra 4th Edition By Hall and Knight
  • Integral calculus For JEE Main & Advanced 2015 by Amit Aaggarwal
  • Differential calculus For JEE Main & Advanced 2015 by Amit Aaggarwal

Ques- Did you qualify for JEE Advanced?

Ans- Yes, I had qualified for JEE Advanced.

Ques- Would you like to signify the essence of coaching classes with respect to your preparation strategies for the entrance?

Ans- Yes, after cracking Mains I have less time to prepare for JEE advance so I choose Aakash institute sec-14 Gurgoan. My personal experience at Aakash was totally awesome. Before coaching I did not know that there are lots of other methods to solve a particular problem. They provide us the best environment and well experienced faculties. Their way of teaching was so interesting that I never feel bored. They have separate batches on the basis of levels of students so that students will not face any problems regarding their low or high IQ. Truly it was Aakash which helps me in getting my target so easily.

Ques- Rate the following parameters in light of preparation strategy?

ParametersRating Scale

Online study materialModerate
Subject wise classes of coaching institutesExcellent
Importance of Self studyExcellent (Mandatory)

Ques- What were your strong & weak k areas? How did you prepare & what special efforts did you put to improve them?

Ans- Physics was my strong area where I have to work less as it was my favorite subject from class 8thOrganic chemistry was one of my weak points in preparation. To improve it I used to watch video lectures online and I also took help from my seniors for shortcuts and tricks .First 3 chapters of organic was quiet easy, for remaining chapters I make notes and I use charts for preparation & stick them in my bed room wall. To study the reactions I have read them again and again and that was really helpful.

Ques- From which mock papers did you have practiced?

Ans- I took mock tests from aakash institute Gurgoan, they cover all the previous 5 to 7 year’s papers and design them in such a way that you can test as well as prepare from their series of mock test. One good thing about aakash is that in JEE series they also include CBSE board questions. You do not need to put extra efforts for board preparation.

Ans- Maths is the key of success to crack JEE. Half of time i used to study only maths as it was one of my interesting subject. For mathematics there are no shortcuts. You have to practice more and more.
I had made a list of formulas which seems to be helpful. During revision.  I had solved mock series from aakash .I had divide the problems in small parts.

  • Plane Trigonometry Part – I and II (English) 4th Edition By S L Loney
  • The Elements of Coordinate Geometry Cartesian Coordinates Part – I
  • Skills in Mathematics Algebra for JEE Main & Advanced By S K Goyal
  • Higher Algebra 4th Edition By Hall and Knight

  • Integral calculus For JEE Main & Advanced 2015 by Amit Aaggarwal
  • Differential calculus For JEE Main & Advanced 2015 by Amit Aaggarwal

Ques- What are the things you would like to go back in time & change to get into a better college?

Ans- If I get a chance to go back in time, I will definately work smartly because in today’s scenario to get an achievement you need to work smarter rather than harder.

I will to start my preparation topic wise & will give more time to those topics which accounts for highest marks in JEE instead of reading all the topics again and again. I also would not take stress as it happened with me in last attempt when I get into the exam hall. I was feeling nervous. Psychology plays a very important role in achieving a target. So do not work by keeping marks in your mind just study to gain more & more knowledge
