JEE Main Exam Pattern has undergone several revisions over the years. JEE Main is conducted for two papers i.e. Paper 1 (Engineering) and Paper 2 (Architecture). Candidates can opt for one or both the papers. CBSE defines syllabus of JEE Main as per the 10+2 curriculum in India. The following article informs about the exam mode, type of questions, medium of exam and marking scheme of JEE Main 2018.

There is no change in JEE Main 2018 Exam Pattern as of now, however, there is a high possibility of change. This is evident from the Finance Minister’s announcement earlier this year that a National Testing Service will be formulated to replace Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) in conducting the aptitude test.

JEE Main Exam Pattern - Paper 1 (B.Tech/ B.E.)

  • Paper 1- Admission to UG engineering courses.
  • Engineering paper will have questions from Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.
  • All questions will have equal weightage i.e. 4 marks each
  • Level of questions- Class 11th and 12th.
  • Offline Paper- April 8, 2018

Detailed JEE Main Paper 1 Exam Pattern

  • Provides admission in Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) and Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.)
  • Sections/ Parts
    • Part I - Physics
    • Part II - Chemistry
    • Part III – Mathematics
  • Number of Questions – 90 questions with each section comprising of 30 questions each.
  • Nature of Questions – Objective type
  • Exam Mode – Choice between Online (CBT) or offline mode (PBT)
  • Exam Duration – 3 hours.
  • Candidates with 40% Disability- 4 hours
  • Exam Medium – The question papers at all exam centers will be in Hindi and English. Tabulated below are Language Medium in JEE Main 2018:

JEE Main 2018 Exam Pattern – Paper 2 (B.Arch/ B.Planning)

  • Paper 2 provides admission to UG architecture courses.
  • Questions Asked- General Aptitude, Mathematics, Drawing Test, Architecture .
  • All questions in Mathematics and Aptitude section will have equal weightage i.e. 4 marks each.
  • Paper 2 is held in offline mode.
  • The paper is scheduled for April 1, 2018.

​- Part I and Part II- 4 marks each.

- Part III- 70 marks

  • Negative Marking- For each incorrect answer, 1/4th mark of the total mark allotted will be deducted. For JEE Main Drawing Test, marks will be allotted on the basis of candidate’s drawing skills.
