JEE Main 2018 Exam Pattern for Paper I (B.Tech) and Paper II (B.Arch)

JEE Main Syllabus JEE Main exam comprises 2 papers- Paper 1 and Paper 2. Paper 1 is held in online and offline modes while JEE Main Paper 2 is conducted in offline mode only. Paper 1 consists of 3 sections namely Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics whereas, Paper 2 has 3 sections- Aptitude Test, Mathematics and Drawing Test. 

Candidates can opt for one or both the papers of JEE Main. The duration of the exam is 3 hours. 4 marks will be awarded for every correct answer, while 1 mark will be deducted for every incorrect answer. There will be no change in the JEE Main exam pattern and syllabus this year.

JEE Main Exam Pattern - Paper 1 (B.Tech/B.E.)

As per JEE Main Brochure, exam pattern of JEE Main Paper 1 such as question paper, duration of exam details are given below:

Detailed JEE Main Paper 1 Exam Pattern

  • Sections/ Parts
    • Part I - Physics
    • Part II - Chemistry
    • Part III – Mathematics
  • Number of Questions – 90 questions with each section comprising of 30 questions each.
  • Nature of Questions – Objective type
  • Exam Mode – Choice between Online (CBT) or Offline mode (PBT)
  • Exam Duration – 3 hours | For candidates with 40% disability- 4 hours
  • Exam Medium – The question papers at all exam centers will be in Hindi and English. For exam centers in Gujarat, Daman & Diu and Dadra & Nagar Haveli, the medium of exam will also be available in Gujarati.
  • Marking Scheme – Each question carries 4 marks. For each incorrect answer, 1/4th mark of the total mark allotted will be deducted.

JEE Main 2018 Exam Pattern – Paper 2 (B.Arch/ B.Planning)

JEE Main Paper 2 is scheduled for April 8, 2018. The exam is held in offline mode. JEE Main exam pattern for paper 2 includes objective as well as drawing questions. This paper is a gateway for admission to UG architecture courses.

    • Part I – Mathematics – Objective type questions
    • Part II – Aptitude Test – Objective type questions
    • Part III – Drawing Test – Questions based on drawing
  • Number of Questions – 82 questions.
  • Exam Duration – 3 Hours
  • Exam Medium – Hindi and English
  • Marking Scheme – All questions in Mathematics and Aptitude section have equal weightage i.e. 4 marks each. While questions based on drawing carry a total of 70 marks.
  • Negative Marking – For each incorrect answer, 1/4th mark of the total mark allotted will be deducted. For JEE Main Drawing Test, marks will be allotted on the basis of candidate’s drawing skills.

Checklist: Best Books for JEE Main 2018 Preparation

Exam Day Guidelines

  • Candidates who are appearing for JEE Main Paper 2 will have to bring their own geometry box set, pencils, erasers, color pencils or crayons.
  • Only a black or blue ball point pen must be used for filling up the OMR sheet.
  • Candidates will be instructed to open the seal of the Test Booklet 5 minutes before the test commences. They must confirm that the Test Booklet Code printed on Side-2 of the Answer Sheet is similar to the one printed on the Test Booklet. If there is a mismatch, it must be reported to the invigilator and get it replaced.
  • Candidates will be allowed to carry a cardboard or a clip board with nothing written on it to the exam hall as a pad to keep the exam paper on it to write smoothly.
  • Candidates should not carry any ball pens to the exam hall. It will be provided at the exam hall.
  • They will be provided with rough sheets to work out the calculations or any other rough work. These sheets have to be returned to the invigilator before leaving the exam hall.
