IES 2018 Eligibility

UPSC has segregated various eligibility categories that a candidate needs to fulfill before applying for IES. The eligibility is defined by the following standards:

  • Nationality – Candidates must be a resident of India, Nepal, Bhutan or a Tibetan refugee.
  • Age Limit – Age limit for IES 2018 is between 21-30 years of age.
  • Academic Qualification – Candidate must hold a bachelor’s degree in the field of engineering from a recognized University.
  • Physical Standards – Candidates must be physically fit according to physical standards defined by the authorities for admission to Engineering Services Examination.

IES 2018 Application Form

  • IES Application Form filling process is completely online.
  • Candidates are required to visit the official website of UPSC to apply for IES 2018.
  • Candidates can start filling in IES Application Form from September 27, 2017.
  • The registration for IES 2018 is done in two parts - Registration Part I and Registration Part II.

IES Registration I

  • In the first part of registration, visit the official website of UPSC to enter personal details and submit them.
  • This will bring them to the next step of registration process i.e. Application Fee payment.

Payment of Application Fee

  • The application fee can be remitted via online as well as offline mode.
  • Candidate will be redirected to a new page where he/she will have to choose the mode of payment.
  • If candidate chooses to pay online, facilities like credit card/debit card or net banking will be available.
  • In case of offline mode of payment, a pay-in-slip shall be provided for cash payment at the nearest branch of State Bank of India.

Registration II

  • Fill in your exam center choices along with engineering core branch once you have successfully paid your application fee.
  • Candidates will have to communicate other details as well before moving to the next step.

Upload required documents

  • Submit all the required information and move on to upload your scanned copy of passport size photograph and clearly visible signatures in the given dimensions.
  • Checkmark the declaration to complete IES Registration.

IES 2018 Admit Card

  • IES Admit card for both the written papers is released separately.
  • Last date to download the document is January 1.
  • IES admit card 2018 can be obtained from the official website of UPSC by entering the required details.

Following are the steps to download IES Admit Card:

  • Go to the official website of UPSC
  • Click on the link to download IES admit card
  • Choose the method of downloading i.e. through Registration ID or Roll Number or Name.
  • Enter the Registration ID or Roll Number followed by the Date of Birth
  • Enter the Captcha and click on ‘submit’,
  • Print the displayed IES Admit Card
Note: Any discrepancy in the e-Admit Card, has to be communicated to the Commission immediately by e-mail ID latest by December 29, 2017 to enable the Commission to take a decision in the matter.

IES 2018 Exam Centers

While in the Part II registration of IES 2018, candidates are asked to choose IES Exam Center for preliminary exam, according to their preference. It must be noted that the exam center for Mains examination is different.

IES 2018 Exam Pattern

  • IES Exam Pattern is defined by Union Public Service Commission. 
  • IES 2018 comprises of three stages- Prelims, Mains and finally Personal Interview.
  • Preliminary exam is an objective paper whereas Mains exam is a conventional paper.
  • Candidates will have to clear prelims to appear for Mains examination.

Note: Candidates who will qualify for IES Cut off set by UPSC will proceed to IES 2018 Mains exam. There are 2 conventional type papers- Paper 1 and paper 2, in IES 2018 Mains exam, each weighing 300 marks.

  • The medium of Mains exam paper will be English only.
  • 5% marks will be deducted from the total marks scored by candidate if the handwriting is not easily legible.

IES Personal Interview Round: 

  • Candidates shortlisted after IES Mains round will be called for personal interview session.
  • It is officially known as ‘Personality Test’ round.
  • Candidates are required to fill Detailed Application Form (DAF) online. 
  • In this stage, selected candidates will be judged on his/her leadership skills, personality, and intellect.
  • A maximum of 200 marks is allotted to the personality test (interview test).

Provision for PwD candidates 

  • UPSC has made provision of providing a compensatory time of 20 minutes per hour for candidates belonging to PwD category.
  • Also, candidates with (minimum of 40% impairment) will be allowed to write Engineering Services Examination (ESE) with the help of a scribe.

IES 2018 Result

  • IES 2018 Results will be declared separately for each stage of the examination.
  • Candidates must regularly check the official website of UPSC to stay updated with the status of result declaration.
  • Candidates who will qualify the prelims shall only proceed to the mains examination, those who do not qualify will not be able to sit for IES 2018 Mains exam.

Similarly, a list will be prepared for candidates who will be called for Personal Interview. Furthermore, a final list of the selected candidates will be disclosed. The steps to obtain IES Results have been listed below:

  • Go to the official website of UPSC, search for result link.
  • A pdf file will be uploaded declaring the results of candidates.
  • Download and open it. Enter your roll number and search the result.

IES 2018 Cut Off

  • IES 2018 Cut off for Preliminary exam is disclosed at the time of result declaration for IES 2018 Preliminary exam
  • Candidates can check the cut off of IES online by visiting the official website of UPSC.
  • To qualify for the next stage i.e. IES Mains, it is important to score equal or more marks as per the set qualifying marks.

IES 2018 Selection Procedure

The two-staged IES recruitment process adopted by UPSC for IES 2018 exam is:

  • Written Examination
  • Personal Interview

The written exam comprises of two exams- Preliminary and Mains. Candidates are required to qualify for IES cut off set by the commission. Clearing IES 2018 Prelims is essential to proceed to IES 2018 Mains Exam. The mains exam is qualifying criteria for Personal Interview session. Shortlisted candidates will be called for final stage i.e. Personality Test. The final results and merit list form the basis of an appointment letter in the name of candidate.

Hi Arindam, I want to tell you that, In case you are facing this problem in uploading the name, make sure that you are have not prefixed Shri./ Mr./Ms./Mrs. before their names. Doing this, the system will not allow you to upload the prefix.
