IBPS Clerk Syllabus 2017

IBPS Clerk Syllabus has been released by the Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) for both the rounds- Prelims and Mains. Candidates must be thorough with the syllabus and IBPS Exam Pattern before sitting for the exam. 

Here are some key points about the syllabus for IBPS Clerk:

  • IBPS PO Clerk Syllabus (Prelims) will have three sections- English Language, Numerical Ability, and Reasoning Ability. There will be a total of 100 questions, each carrying one mark. Maximum weightage is given to Numerical Ability and Reasoning section (35 questions each). 
  • IBPS PO Clerk Syllabus (Mains) will have five sections- Reasoning, English Language, Quantitative Aptitude, General Awareness (with special reference to Banking) and Computer Knowledge. There will be a total of 200 questions, each carrying one mark. Maximum weightage is given to Reasoning and Quants section (50 questions each). Last year, English and Reasoning sections were the most difficult to attempt. Check  IBPS Clerk 2016 Analysis

IBPS Clerk CWE VII (Prelims) is will be conducted on November 26, November 27, December 3, and December 4, 2017. It will be a computer-based test. All candidates who clear the Prelims stage will sit for IBPS Clerk (Mains 2017) on December 31, 2017 and January 1, 2018. Further, candidates who qualify the set cut off marks will be considered for selection.

IBPS Clerk Exam Pattern 2017

IBPS Clerk is a two-tier exam, where both its stages have different paper patterns. We have described IBPS Clerk Exam Pattern 2017 for Prelims and Mains in brief below:

IBPS Clerk Exam Pattern- Prelims

  • The Prelims exam will have a total of 100, each question carrying 1 mark.
  • This exam has 3 main sections viz. English Language, Numerical Ability, Reasoning Ability.
  • As for the marking scheme, +1 mark will be awarded for a correct response and -1 will be deducted for an incorrect response.

  • The Mains exam will have a total of 200, each question carrying 1 mark.
  • This exam has 5 main sections viz. Reasoning, English Language, Quantitative Aptitude, General Awareness & Computer Knowledge.

IBPS Clerk Syllabus for English Language

  • English Language is the common section in both- Prelims and Mains.
  • It basically tests a candidate’s hold on this language and how error-free is his writing style.
  • In IBPS Clerk CWE-VII Prelims, there will be 30 questions from this section. For Mains, this section will account for 40 questions.
  • IBPS Clerk syllabus for English language can be divided into 3 broad categories mentioned below:

  • Reading Comprehension: This section is highly scoring and the questions asked are usually easy. In this section, high accuracy is possible. Sometimes, questions can be tricky and time-consuming but it depends on the nature of reading comprehension and questions.
  • Synonyms & Antonyms: In this, much marks can be fetched. Candidates should be attentive and careful while marking the answers because it has medium accuracy.
  • Completion of sentence: In this, the questions can be tricky and time-consuming.
  • Cloze test, Error spotting and Para jumbles: The questions on these are time-consuming and tricky in nature. In solving these questions, the time taken and accuracy are usually correlated.

  • The syllabus for this section has basic mathematics taught from class 1st to 10th standards.
  • This section is part of IBPS Clerk Mains only and accounts for 50 questions.
  • Questions in this section are scoring and less time-consuming, while some of the questions might take time and tricky too. Candidates should not lose focus while solving these questions.

1 Graduation in any discipline.

2 The candidate must be a citizen of India.
